Alex Chilton - From Memphis To New Orleans - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Alex Chilton - revered frontman for The Boxtops and Big Star - was always known to surprise his fans with the different directions he took over the years. Songs From Robin Hood Lane finds Chilton tackling a variety of numbers from the great American songbook. Many of the songs he learned from his jazz trumpeter/pianist father Sidney Chilton, while growing up in the Memphis suburbs in the 1950s. The 12-track collection features some of his most expressive singing from his time as a solo artist. This set includes four previously unreleased recordings and others that are quite rare. All have been out of print for some time. This is a great lazy Sunday afternoon record to listen to and curl up with someone you love.

Music for piano, tape and electronics by Katharine Norman. The composer believes that the solo piano and the digital soundscape share an ability to convey an unflinching intensity, an intimacy that draws the listener InchinsideInch the timbres of sounds, and the nuances of experience.

On the night of February 13, 1997 Alex Chilton and his band were getting ready to play their second set of the night at the Knitting Factory in New York City when the lights went out. What happened was this album, a spontaneous off the cuff performance. This is Alex thinking on his feet, in the moment, bouncing songs and ideas off the folks that stuck around for a real one-of-a-kind exchange. This is as close and personal as it gets. Much of the material will be new to even hard core fans, there's Johnny Cash to the Beach Boys.
