Alex Jakobowitz - Art Of Xylos - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

An object in motion stays in motion, as Newton eloquently explained. Thus we have the link connecting one enterprising artist to another. With Motivity, his fifth album to date, saxophonist Alex Lore draws a direct line from his chordless trio approach to that of his mentor, the late Lee Konitz, on Motion (Verve, 1961). Working with two of the finest rhythm modernists on today's scene-bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Johnathan Blake-LoRe upholds his reputation as an inveterate creative, presenting a thoughtfully constructed program highlighting his love for melody, communion and pure improvisation as they relate to both the source material and his own search for meaning in music. Album Tracks 1. I Remember You 2. Like-Lee 3. A Weaver of Dreams 4. Intro to Thingin' 5. Thingin' 6. 'Tis Autumn 7. Free 8. Overly Sentimental

Transcribing an established piece of repertoire for a new instrument unlocks new colors and expressions the original composer may have never dreamed of. On ART OF TRANSCRIPTION, flutist Alexander Lipay explores Brahms' Sonata No. 1 in E minor, Schubert's Sonatina No. 2 in A minor, and Franck's Sonata in A major with a fresh perspective, swapping the string instruments out for the liquid, ethereal sound of the flute. Accompanied by pianist Fanya Lin, Lipay unearths exciting qualities within each piece and breathes new life into well-known notes. Album Tracks 1. Sonata No. 1 in E minor Op. 38 for Flute and Piano-I. Allegro Non Troppo 2. Sonata No. 1 in E minor Op. 38 for Flute and Piano-II. Allegretto Quasi Menuetto 3.
