About this product
Everything changed for Alex Maas in 2018. That was the year his first child was born-a happy and healthy baby boy-sending The Black Angels' vocalist and multi-instrumentalist into a flurry of emotions he hadn't felt before. There was the joy, of course, and the sheer awe that comes with creating new life. But to a lesser degree, there was also the fear What world is his son going to grow up into, exactly? And how can Maas protect him from the dangers within it? InchWhen you have a child, you face your own mortality in a lot of ways,Inch says Maas, a Texas native who's lived in Austin for decades. This formidable power trio of guitarist Alex Machacek, 5-string electric bassist Matthew Garrison and drummer Jeff Sipe is impossibly intense, dripping with staggering virtuosity and fertile ideas and seething with the kind of raucous improvisational abandon that we haven't seen since the heyday of Tribal Tech. The opening track of their new album says it all InchThere's a New Sheriff in Town.Inch Machacek's mind-boggling technique is an obvious place to begin in singing the praises of this exciting new triumvirate. There is also a remarkable depth to the writing here, which comes across on harmonically sophisticated pieces like the atmospheric ballad InchVery Sad,Inch the compelling InchShona,Inch the gentle, darkly alluring InchTo Whom It May ConcernInch and the gorgeous InchPut Me Back to Sleep.Inch
