Allah-Las - LAHS - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Social and musical life in Biedermeier Vienna during the first decade of the 19th century created a great demand for dances which took place in the residences of wealthy citizens. With their echoes of the Austrian countryside Schubert's folk-type Ländler are dances in 3/4 time, precursors of the waltz. Composed towards the end of his life when Schubert wrote his greatest music, the sets of 16and17Ländlerare notable for their melodic inventiveness. The 16arededicated to the ladies of Vienna and known as the Wiener Damen-Ländler; while the Écossaises were intended for facing lines of dancers rather than couples. Daniel Lebhardt relishes the joy and 'irresistible and sometimes quite delirious' ingenuity of these jewel-like dances. Album Tracks 1. 17 Ländler, D. 366 (Before 1824) 2. Minuet in a Major with Trio, D. 334 (1815) 3. 2016 . On Calico Review, Allah-Las weave their dreamy version of west coast psychedelia with advanced songwriting and exquisite production detail. The California quartet's third album, Calico Review, focuses on both the outer trappings of their home and surroundings, and the through line of darkness that suffuses life in L.A. county. Bearing the mark of four students becoming the teachers and sharing the sentiments of the town they call home, there's a lot to learn from Allah-Las. The band formed in 2008 while three of the members were working at Amoeba Music in L.A. The Allah-Las released their debut seven inch single in 2011. Album Tracks 1. Strange Heat 2. Satisfied 3. On their self-titled fourth album, La Luz launch themselves into a new realm of emotional intimacy for a collection of songs steeped in the mysteries of the natural world and the magic of human chemistry that has found manifestation in the musical ESP between guitarist and songwriter Shana Cleveland, bassist Lena Simon, and keyboardist Alice Sandahl. To help shape La Luz, the band found a kindred spirit in producer Adrian Younge. Though primarily known for his work with hip-hop, soul, and jazz acts, Younge saw in La Luz a shared vision that transcended genre. InchWe both create music with the same attitude, and that's what I love about them,Inch he says. InchThey are never afraid to be risky and their style is captivating. It was an honor to work with them.InchThe result is an album that is both the most naturalistic and psychedelic of the band's career. All the elements of classic La Luz are still present-the rich harmonies, the impeccable musicianship, the gorgeous melodies-but it's a richer, earthier iteration, replete with inorganic sounds that mimic the surreality of nature-the humming of invisible bugs, the atmospheric sizzle of a hot day. After spending the last few years living in rural northern California, Cleveland's lyrics have become more grounded, less interested in traveling to other dimensions than in peeking behind the curtain of this one. With sounds ranging from ghostly electric guitar shimmers, charging fuzz-guitar rock, soulful organ-driven dream-funk, galactic synths, and breezy '70s folk-pop, La Luz is an album that celebrates love-of music, of friendship, of life in all it's forms. -Mariana Timony Album Tracks 1.
