In times of trouble, women have often had to bear an even heavier burden throughout history. On their tenth full-length InchRuby RedInch, San Francisco based all-female quartet Amber Asylum offer a haunting reflection on turbulent eras and blends instrumental passages with evocative lyrics. InchRuby RedInch combines dirges, introspective laments, and powerful songwriting that evoke both despair and hope. The album transitions between themes of pain, loss, empowerment, and mortality, while creating a sonic landscape that is both raw and introspective. InchRuby RedInch features bass, classical strings, percussion and kit, modular synthesis and female voices. Musically, Amber Asylum balance driving neoclassical elements with the raw power of pounding bass and drums, adding a potent, rhythmic force that contrasts beautifully with the quieter, brooding strings on InchRuby RedInch. The bass and percussion create a compelling pulse that underpins the tracks, adding both intensity and depth to the album's darker moments. Amber Asylum were conceived by composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Kris Force in the Californian city of San Francisco in 1990. Throughout their ever-changing musical evolution, the band has shifted throughout a variety of styles and collaborated with a host of musicians such as Steve van Till (NEUROSIS), Sarah Schaffer (WEAKLING), John Cobbet (HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE), Leila Abdul-Rauf (VASTUM), among many others. With InchRuby RedInch, Amber Asylum perfectly capture the growing dread and horror of a new dark age falling in our time. Alsarah & The Nubatones are back! After the of their first album, Silt, the band embarked on an an intense travel schedule that saw the band tour Australia, play a headline slot at WOMAD, sell out their London debut as well as a marquee slot at NYCâ??s world famous Apollo theatre. After an extended sabbatical in Morocco, their sophomore album Manara was given birth, showcasing a new intimacy in the creative process for the group. Having suffered the loss of former Oud player Haig Manoukian to a long battle with cancer shortly after the of the debut Alsarah & The Nubatones spent the past 2 years touring, growing closer and shaping their sound with the two new members â?? Brandon Terzic (Oud) and Nahid (additional vocals). Banded together with stories of movement and migration in the face of the current anti-immigrant global atmosphere, they delved deeper into defining the sound they have coined as â??East African Retropopâ?, rooted in the silt of Sudan and Nubia, and further inspired by the eastern coast of Africa and the diversity of it's sounds and migration patterns.
