Andrea Kapell Loewy - Apparitions for Flute & Piano - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The Voce Quartet writes InchPlaying the demanding and constantly shifting string quartet repertory is enough to fill up four lives. Buoyed up by this heritage, we wanted to explore less well-known territories. In the early years of the twentieth century, Bartok and Kodaly roamed the villages of Hungary and Romania, collecting, transcribing and recording hundreds of folk tunes and songs. Building on a number of encounters with leading figures of jazz and world music, we asked five instrumentalist-composers to write us pieces inspired by musical worlds to which they feel close. In addition to these new compositions, we wanted to record Escalay by the Egyptian oud player Hamza el Din who died in 2006, a nod to the Kronos Quartet whose approach is an inspiration to us.Inch The Voce Quartet is Sarah Dayan and Cecile Roubin (violins), Guillaume Becker, and Lydia Shelley.

The Patterson/Sutton Duo and composer Stephen Goss have worked together over many years and this album represents the fruits of their musical collaboration. This collection of Goss's complete works for cello and guitar is a kaleidoscopic journey through the evocative sound world of this instrumental pairing. Featuring multiple world premieres and a diverse array of styles, STILL LIFE attempts to push the medium of cello and guitar to it's limits. Praised by The Strad magazine for their Inchwit and imaginationInch, the trailblazing Patterson/Sutton cello and guitar duo continue to be in demand as they bring the rich cello and guitar repertoire to audiences around the world. The Patterson/Sutton duo were featured artists at the 2016 Guitar Foundation of America Convention and have an ongoing relationship with The Juilliard School as Juilliard Global Visiting Artists. The duo have been featured on Performance Today/American Public Media, Radio New Zealand, Fine Music Radio South Africa, among many others.

This presents a programme of chamber music for flute and piano from the last third of the 19th century and the early 20th century. With the exception of Max Reger and possibly Carl Reinecke, the composers of these works may not be familiar to the modern-day music lover, for their names have unjustly been forgotten Sigfrid Karg-Elert, Emil Kronke, and Carl Fruhling. All these composers except Fruhling are associated with the musical city of Leipzig. Christina Fassbender studied with Professor Jean-Claude Gerard in Stuttgart and with Professor Michael Martin Kofler at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg. Florian Wiek has made a name for himself through international concert engagements that have taken him to numerous festivals and concert halls.
