Pianist and composer, Andy Milne is thrilled to present Time Will Tell, a new album recorded with his trio Unison dropping April 26, 2024, on Sunnyside Records. Milne's latest collaboration with bassist John Hébert and drummer Clarence Penn is a sparkling exploration of identity and destiny, showcasing Milne's ever-evolving craft. It follows the trio's The ReMission (2020), winner of Jazz Album of the Year Group at the 2021 Juno Awards. As with it's predecessor, Time Will Tell is Milne's artistic response to life-changing circumstances. Whereas The ReMission was inspired by his cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, Time Will Tell chronicles his lifelong efforts to uncover his birth family history. Adopted as an infant, his efforts to connect with his birth family proved fruitless - until 2018, when the gift of an Ancestry. Com DNA test from his wife, singer La Tanya Hall, changed everything. A DNA match led him to his first cousin, Marc, with whom he discovered he shared a mutual friend. Ironically, just as world events collided with the COVID-19 lockdowns, the profound mysteries of his biological family began to rapidly reveal themselves. InchIn 2022, my voyage eventually received an unimaginable upgrade when I finally met my birth mother, Inch he recounts. InchThis recording reflects part of my expedition navigating the mixed emotions associated with this identity paradox. How we move through life, and the lives we will touch, is unknown to us, despite our best efforts to chart a path. InchWhile he says the new album shouldn't be taken as a pound-for-pound musical account of these experiences, the journey inspired and informed his process. My vision for UNISON has evolved since our first performance in 2017.I've endeavored to go deeper into honoring my influences and collectively,we've been refining our musical interactions although if I say so I felt likewe started off in a pretty magical place. Some of the music presented herewas composed or arranged specifically for this trio and some found a newhome here. Originally I imagined UNISON might perform mainly jazz standards,exploring the influences that formed my foundation and entrance into jazz(Oscar Peterson Bill Evans Keith Jarrett Ahmad Jamal.) Like the unexpectedjoys of an improvisational journey our collective conversation guided our pathtowards the intersection of our combined sensibilities - joy risk & trust.For now here is where we live.

His knowledge of their musical lineage, strengths and weaknesses allowed him to customize parts for each voice. Pianist and composer Andy Milne takes this principle a step further on his new recording, The Seasons of Being. Applying the principles of homeopathic diagnosis, Milne generates an optimized environment for improvisation for his long running Dapp Theory ensemble and a host of special guests.

Two major works by John Rutter, form this album - Visions. Featuring Rutter's most recent piece, scored for solo violin, string ensemble and choristers, Visions was written for a past winner of the Menuhin Competition, Kerson Leong. The four movement piece is based around the vision of the holy city of Jerusalem, weaving in biblical texts which express different aspects of the vision. Requiem, one of John Rutter's most well-known and widely-performed pieces, was originally recorded by John Rutter in the 80s. Rutter felt it would be interesting to give a new generation of the Cambridge Singers (most of whom were not born at the time of the original recording) an opportunity to see what they could do with what is now a familiar choral work.
