Angel Voices: Boys Choirs Xmas Celebration / Var - Angel Voices: Boys Choirs Xmas Celebration / - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

For over 500 years the Vienna Boys' Choir has been a living tradition. Since their beginning the choir has worked with composers such as Mozart Schubert and Bruckner. Capriccio presents this two disc set of what the choir is best known for traditional Christmas songs.

With one foot in classic ambient and the other in a cosmic nowhere, XI issues a spacey ennui with every throb, plunk and whistle. XI salutes Eno, Cluster and Aphex with a glut of bleak tones, fuzzy images, some sand in the bed and droplets of sparkling vibration. Using all tools at their disposal XI sketches a watery curiosity. Like the roar of a moving river or the frailty of moonlight, XI can be self-evident, droning and introverted. Like a mash up of the memory of some movement and that desperate feeling of being lost in a unfamiliar city at midnight, XI can induce familiarity, fear and a small dose of alienation. XI can ooze and ponder. XI can mislead and redirect. Murky sounds from a smokey horizon. The clutter is stripped away. No need for words or conventions. XI features mysterious beats, circling synthesizers, theory learned and forgotten alongside a dose of a catastrophe fetish. Your toes dangle over a cliff's edge. What do you hear the moment before you launch yourself into the sea below?
