About this product
This Album tackles some of Clara Schumann's most representative early works, from the Polonaises op. 1 (written when she was 13) to the Sonata in G minor (composed at the age of 20). These pages show the environment in which the young Clara grows artistically, namely pianism of InchvirtuosityInch, the influence of Chopin (the Soirées Musicales op.6), the almost statutory homage to the Viennese tradition (the Souvenir de Vienne op. 9 dedicated to the Empress of Austria) and, equally obligatory, the sonata that, together with the Romances op. 11, marks the passage to a second, more mature phase - magnificent yet tormented - of her life and poetics.

An Australian who studied early music, harpsichord and fortepiano in New York, Anthony Romaniuk also has a passion for improvisation, independent rock and electronic music. This musical polyglot collaborates regularly with the violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja, the vocal ensemble Vox Luminis, the tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen and the cellist Pieter Wispelwey. For his first solo album, he has spent ten years exploring almost ten centuries of music, which he has decided to play on four different keyboards harpsichord, fortepiano, piano and Fender Rhodes. Fascinated by low sustained notes (known as 'pedal points', the descendants of drones) - hence the title Bells - Anthony Romaniuk exceeds the boundaries of classical orthodoxy, ranging from Mozart to Crumb. An incredible compendium of music and emotions that enables us to discover Rameau, Byrd, Beethoven, Debussy, Purcell in a new light. We go from Bartók's Mikrokosmos to a fascinating medieval melody that he has harmonized like a jazzman. Thanks to the delicate timbre of the Fender Rhodes, we hear Bach quite differently, alongside Chick Corea's magical Children's Songs.

Born in France with Mozart's double Concerto kv 299, explored (albeit with a certain discontinuity) by composers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the flute and harp duo was very popular with composers of the twentieth century, all over the world and in every possible style the choice of the repertoire for this recording, however, privileged compositions inspired by the neoclassical taste, showing how it could be declined in many personal and different ways. This production is including an anthology of unpublished works for flute and harp (apart the famous sonata by Nino Rota, all other compositions are world premiere recordings) by the consolidated duo formed by Claudio Ortensi and Anna Pasetti, already distinguished for the publications aimed at the rediscovery of music written specifically for their instruments both in the Classicism (Luigi Gianella - Trois Duos Concertants op. 2, TC770702, Tactus, 2014) and in the Romantic age (Music for flute and harp of the Italian nineteenth century TC800005, Tactus, 2017).

This is the third of four albums to be released that will form a recording cycle that explores the closely intertwined personal and artistic connections between three musical giants Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. Robert Schumann's and Johannes Brahms' symphonies will be paired and combined with Clara Schumann's chamber works and orchestral pieces, including some special gems. InchI have always loved these symphonies and saw many links between them. It has always been my dream to record them and them together. No story of these two composers is complete without Clara, as famous in her lifetime as her husband, and a strong influence on both Robert and Johannes. ?We crafted this vision with Clara Schumann scholar Julie Pedneault-Deslauriers, to combine the symphonies with pieces by Clara in ways that provide an insightful narrative to the intertwined lives and works of these three Romantics.Inch - Alexander Shelley
