Volker Meitz - Stamina - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Stamina means as much as perseverance and is a fitting title for the debut album of Grand Couloir, because the five musicians in Berlin have known and appreciated each other for a long time. Keyboarder Volker Meitz, tenor saxophonist Dirk Steglich, trumpeter Christoph Titz, bassist Roland Fidezius and drummer Tilo Weber have succeeded in creating a highly individual sound that often seems as risky as playing with fire. InchWe've known each other for a long time and have already played together in a wide variety of constellations,Inch Volker Meitz summarized their past experience. InchThis band has also been around under a different name for a long time, but we decided that it was finally time for an album. InchGrand Couloir creates sensitive ballads and fast-paced fusion sounds, acid jazz snippets and dub swaths, soul jazz grooves and reggae sounds, free sound research and spacey electronics without the band sounding like an indefinable general merchandise store. There are recognizable influences that have affected the more or less long musician lives of the five without the personal individual styles having to be given up or warped - in short, InchStaminaInch is a musical cornucopia that is unparalleled.

Amercan Balalaika Company - Fire And Passion - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

A  unique rarity originally released in 1982, this recording was of a local, South Florida Balalaika ensemble (aptly named American Balalaika Company) and was one of the last releases from the indie world music tag, Request Records, which started operations in the early 1950s. The group featured the musicians Arthur Gans on prima balalaika, alto balalaika, bouzouki, flute and vocals; Michael Greenspan on accordion, synth-accordion, soprano recorder and vocals; Paul Merz on contrabass balalaika, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, charango and vocals; and Sandra Denise Peterson on prima balalaika, percussion, vocals and choreography. The music they played was mostly traditional balalaika music, with added touches of other world music strains and a little Americana thrown in for good measure. For example, track one is a traditional medley that also contains InchLaura's ThemeInch from Dr. Zhivago; track four is a traditional medley that also contains InchZorba's ThemeInch from Zorba The Greek, track 9 is a traditional medley that also contains strains of Hank Williams InchI Saw The Light,Inch and the traditional country/bluegrass tune, InchRocky Top.Inch This lost album has been newly remastered for this exclusive , and finally made available in the digital domain.
