I bought this MacBook Pro with the M5 chip and 24GB of RAM because I wanted something I wouldn’t have to think about replacing anytime soon. The photo attached was taken while I was producing music out of an Airbnb. Looking at it, you’ll see a guitar, a MIDI keyboard, an interface, and a drum machine. But honestly, the funny thing is that all you really need is the MacBook. Logic Pro comes loaded with incredible instruments, synths, drums, pianos, and sounds right out of the box. Even if I didn’t have my MIDI keyboard with me, I could still use the MacBook’s keyboard to play and record instruments directly into Logic. It’s that capable. The M5 and 24GB of RAM absolutely fly through Logic Pro and Ableton sessions. I’ve loaded projects with tons of tracks, plugins, virtual instruments, and automation, and it never feels like it’s working hard. The keyboard itself is one of my favorite parts of the computer. It’s comfortable, fast, and perfect for writing lyrics, editing sessions, programming drums, and getting ideas down quickly. The built-in microphone is also much better than most people realize. I’ve captured vocal ideas and demos with it more than once, and it’s surprisingly usable. The battery life is ridiculous. I can spend hours producing without even thinking about bringing a charger. The display is gorgeous too, especially when you’re staring at arrangements and plugins all day. And the speakers are honestly incredible. They’re detailed enough that I can sketch out arrangements, build songs, and even make rough mixing decisions directly from the laptop. For a portable machine, they’re seriously impressive. One last thing: Best Buy always seems to have great deals. I bought mine during their Memorial Day sale, and the savings were so good that upgrading to 24GB of RAM felt almost free.
