Fortunately, I was able to try the mod kit at PAX, otherwise it's practically impossible to try them beforehand. All I can say is that I've tried every other major gaming headset brand out there that offers headphones within the price range of what the Astro A40 TR headset would cost with this mod kit (Let's say $200-$300). The headphones with this mod kit is the only set I can use for very long periods of time without my ears and the top of my head hurting. The surround sound quality is amazing and everyone I ask says my voice is crystal clear on their end with no background noise whatsoever, even when purposefully making noise around me. The one thing I will say is kind of a bummer is that this kit doesn't cancel out noise as much as I'd like. It definitely dampens the noise considerably, but not completely. I'd say it dampened noise by about 25db, comparable to most standard each plugs. Other than that, I love it!

I got this because the headphones were boring. not really i wanted the longer boom mic because i'm a large male child. The ear pieces snap in place and are easy to change as was the mic. i'm still afraid to change the head piece because it looks fragile and may break if handled incorrectly. i'm looking for instructions on how to change it and so far none are to be found. other than that i love it :)

This mod kit is great ear cushions make it so i cant hear people as much and they cant hear my sound if its too loud.

I wasn't expecting the Mod Kit to do anything except customize my Astro headset with Black Ops 3 logos. I was surprised that they are actually more comfortable than the stock ear pads and they are sound isolating as well.

It looks good but that really doesn't matter since you can't look at it while you're using it. This is more for a tournament room setting. Where as there are a lot of ppl talking and background noises. As for having it in your own home where there is usually not much noise you don't really need it. It does give you some noise cancelling. After a half hour or so the ear cups get your ears hot due to the noise cancelling "leather" cups. The mic has its draw backs. For most for he time you have to speak louder than normal otherwise your voice cuts out words. The mic just kept moving down little by little. It wouldn't stay next to my mouth. The seal connection from the mm jack wasn't secure enough to hold the mic in place. I ended up returning this item as well as the Astro a40 TR headset. I purchased the a50 afterwards. The A50' sound performance blows the a40 tr out of the water.

I wasn't sure if this would really enhance the headset but it does. The ear cups prevent sound from coming out of the headphones for others to hear, which was probably one of my only complaints about the original headset. The mic is definitely better and prevents a lot of background noise from hitting mic. I use a lot of razer stuff, keyboard/mouse/etc, so the color scheme looks great. Overall well worth the money!

Leather ear cups are much better for me than the cloth ones. They seal out all the sound but aesthetically I do not like it on the white A40s.

If you're debating whether to get a mod kit or not, do so. It's money well spent. Just to be clear though, the actual sound quality will not change but the experience will. Aesthetically: they look much better in person than in any picture. Microphone: better quality, easier at getting your voice and eliminating background noise. It's one inch longer than the stock mic so it lands closer to the front of your mouth. It's also heavier so if you tend to move your head a lot it might need to be adjusted at times. Ear cups & headband: very plush and comfortable. Do a great job at isolating the outside noise which should help with immersion. On the same note, others around you should be happier as they also diminish game audio from leaking outside of your headset. However, they make the headset feel heavier, somewhat more compressed and because they are leather they may cause perspiration around the ear but they are still comfortable and should be able to wear for hours. Headband is comfortable but a bit of a pain to swap out. Speaker plates: Like I said earlier the audio quality won't change but they really do change the feel of the audio. So this depends on what you prefer, "open back" (audio will feel like it has more distance/space to distribute in) or "closed back" (audio will feel more closed in. more in your head sort of speak)

Turns the base headset to a fully immersive experience by sealing the ear cups. the boom mic is an inch longer and reaches further around the face for better voice reproduction.

Awesome product to say the least it really changes the way you can listen to video gaming and it blocks about 90% of background noise just love it...

They really cut the background noise almost completely out.

The leather on this mod kit feels more comfortable than the stock cloth headset. The sound is insulated better, but sound quality itself isn't improved. The mod definitely keeps my ears warm enough to wear outside without having to worry about the cold. The only downsides are that Astro doesn't include the mod with the headphone purchase and that my ears get irritatingly warm after seriously long periods of time.

I know nothing about gaming but this was at the top of the Christmas list. He loved it. Guess that is what matters. Easy to attach pieces.
