In the box: • ASUS ProArt P16 H7606GM laptop • A25-200P2A power adapter Setup: As with all Windows 11 systems, a Microsoft account is required for setup. Design: Laptop includes a dial on the mouse pad. This feature can be used with Photoshop and Lightroom but are largely unnecessary unless you rely on the mousepad for editing. The display had a distinct blue/green cast prior to color calibration. Calibration resulted in a much more neutral presentation. For a laptop named “ProArt”, one would expect a robust color gamut. While the display rendered 100% of sRGB and 99% of P3 (close to the claimed 100%), it only managed 97% of AdobeRBG and 95% of NTSC. The power adapter uses a proprietary, rectangular connection. However, the USB 4 (Type C) port can be used as power input or high-speed connection to an external monitor or docking station. A 3.5mm audio jack allows wired connection with a headset. There is a SD card reader for easy transfer of images and video from cameras. The chassis is surprisingly thin and solidly built. There are two NVMe slots. Per ASUS, “Slot 1: M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4x4, supporting up to 1 TB NVMe SSDs Slot 2: M.2 2230 PCIe Gen4x2, supporting up to 512 GB NVMe SSDs”. It is not clear whether the 512 GB SSD installed is in slot 1 or 2. Nonetheless, it appears that the system is only capable of supporting 1.5 TB total. Operation: MyASUS app offers a handy place to check system performance and driver updates. Rendering speed for AI content in Lightroom (e.g., Denoise and Super Resolution) is on a par with my other system (Intel Ultra 9 24 Cores + NVIDIA RTX PRO 1000 Blackwell GPU). Battery: Battery life acceptable. The battery lasted ~4h with photo editing and screen brightness at 100%. Overall: The H7606GM is a very capable laptop with good processing speed (CPU & GPU) and a very capable 3K display for most applications. The system comes with 512 GB of Internal storage to which another 1 TB can be added. Most photographers and videographers will need to augment with an external drive using the USB 4 (Type C) port or NAS disk array.
