Worked on first boot / no issues in updates except BIOS update which was very strange. Be careful as it hung on reboot. 3. Looks like 2 years parts and labor warranty in the ASUS APP. 4. Complete printed manual with extended warranty options online and also in the MY ASUS APP 5. Cooling was well laid out with copper tubing’s going from the CPU to fan assembly. Very quiet and efficient. 6. No heat shield for the M.2 4.0 drive. If you swap out/clone drives, be sure to turn off drive encryption in the settings. 7. Internal drive is fine the way it is! No upgrade needed and I added a second M.2 drive in the spare M.2 slot (you will need a screw). Use the clone software that works for you (SANDISK worked fine). If you forget to turn off drive encryption before you start you will be in for a bad day at best. I discovered, by accident, that Acronis can wipe a drive if you select a data only un-encrypted drive to clone and stop it after 20 minutes. Also, there is a free software online (on initial use) that you can wipe the drive. 8. The MOBO has numerous expansion ports that are not explained in the manual. An experienced builder can figure this out but the manual is very deficient on tagging all these ports. 9. Never use additional security software with Microsoft built in complete security system 10. Keep MY ASUS (important FW update needed/ had issues/be careful) and set up your account online/register for service. After warranty runs out consider keeping it! Run the complete update in this APP! 11. Go into Microsoft settings and turn off everything you can live without. On initial setup say no to everything in life as you can always say yes later (exception security log-ins). 12. Fully install XBOX and sign in. No free 3-month pass. 13. Perfect business and home use. Very nice unit. 14. Only one USB C port. 15. This unit as all the normal inputs and outputs for a desktop. 16. Ventilation is outstanding 17. WF 6 AX and LAN connections worked perfect. 18. PSU is an 80 plus bronze 180-watt unit. Do not overload this PSU. 19. The long video card slot should be used for other things unless you upgrade the PSU. Two additional short slots. 20. Cloning was easy with the M.2 free authorized software. 21. The ASUS APP is a very nice product to keep you unit updated. 22. Sound is with ear buds or an external sound system. 23. Unit had no defects that I could find. 24. Most parts made worldwide supply. Installed XBOX Ultimate and played several games (Fight Simulator 2024, Minecraft Bedrock, Warcraft 3, etc). Fans were on the highest speed in auto mode for the high-end games. Cooling is sufficient. When completely finished setting the unit up, I updated the BIOS FW in the ASUS APP. Critical update for this unit and watch the screen like without fail and take a picture of the warning if it fails to boot/ then enter BIOS and rummage around for boot. Windows update should catch all the rest. Fan came on at the right temperatures. Also, the keyboard FN keys allow you have multiple functionalities. XBOX-X controller is the best bet for games. The i9 ULTRA CPU showed its strength in gaming mode as I was surprised how quick it was. The external mouse and keyboard were ok for some gaming with NO lighted keys. I use an external XBOX controller for most games. The keys are clearly tagged as to functions. No separate number key pad area (no issue). Final thoughts! Manual information and PSU power were substandard. This a compact robust desktop. Fast and portable. TLDR: The Asus V701 is an extremely powerful desktop that only lacks a dedicated video card. Asus has done a very good job at ensuring the driver suite is complete and functional prior to shipment. Because of this, I experienced no issues during initial Windows set-up. Also, like the other Asus products I've recently reviewed, this desktop also ships with minimal bloatware. The MyAsus app is the only offender, and it is a necessary commodity. The MyAsus app is the one-stop app for product registration, warranty status, system diagnostics, and firmware/bios updates. The app works well and seems to have minimal intrusion and resource consumption in day-to-day use. Kudos Asus! WINDOWS 11 The V701 ships with Windows 11 Home. However, for a computer that is new to the market, the V701 mysteriously ships with Windows 11 25H2 instead of the much newer 26H1. Not sure why this product in particular ships with the older Windows platform. Not a deal breaker as 26H1 is just a few clicks away with the Windows Media Creation Tool. PERFORMANCE / USAGE I'll say it right off, the Core Ultra 9 is one of the most powerful CPU's you can buy today. It puts other brands and even its siblings to shame. As soon as I activated Windows and started the chore of installing OS and app updates, I could tell the 9 was playing on a different level than its competition. The speed at which it processed updates and changes was impressive. The boost in performance was immediately noticeable, even before I began doing benchmarking or app testing. I am consistently surprised at just how responsive and peppy the V701 is. Running a series of benchmarks on the Ultra 9 and some of its siblings confirmed my initial thoughts. The Core Ultra 9 is very powerful. CPU synthetic benchmarks are below: Intel Core Ultra 9 275: 58610 / 97th Percentile Intel Core Ultra 7 355: 18563 / 53rd Percentile Intel Core i9-12900H: 30863 / 79th Percentile Intel Core i5-13400: 25869 / 71st Percentile Intel Core i5-13420H: 20605 / 59th Percentile As you can see, the Ultra 9 is more than 2x faster than its 8 and 10 core siblings and more than 40% faster than Intel's own 14C / 20T Core i9 processor from just a couple generations ago. Not to mention, these results place the Ultra 9 faster than a recent competitor's 24 core processor I tested and reviewed a few weeks ago. NEGATIVES First. The BIGGEST drawback of these Asus desktops is that they use the laptop in a desktop design and because of this, there are little options for upgradeability. The V701's case and chassis are slim and small. It uses non-standard components for most of the assembly. For example, the power supply is a TFX power supply (the V701 is physically too small to accommodate an ITX power supply). While not impossible, they are more difficult to find than the industry standard ITX power supplies. When you are able to locate one, there are limited output options available too. The most powerful TFX power supply I could easily locate was just 500 watts. Even then, I'm not sure it would be compatible with Asus' proprietary GPU power connection on the motherboard. Second. The labeling on the case is next to impossible to read. The writing doesn't offer enough contrast to the black case to make out the wording on the front of the PC. FINAL THOUGHTS If upgradeability is not important to you, the V701 will make a great small desktop. It has excellent thermal characteristics and even under stress, the V701 remains cool, quiet, and composed. Asus has done a very good job at designing airflow through the case. There is nothing to complain about regarding the raw processing power of the 701. The Core Ultra 9 offers a whopping 24 CPU cores, providing more than enough processing power for even the most demanding workloads while using the same amount of power laptops of just a couple generations ago could only dream of being able to hit. The amount of computing power Intel has put in the Ultra 9 is impressive. The V701 is an ideal companion for those that need a workhorse of a desktop. The Ultra 9 packs a wallop and Intel's integrated graphics provide way more than enough power to satisfy 99% of the market. The V701 is fast, quiet, and looks sharp. RECOMMENDED

The ASUS V701ML Desktop is a compact Mini Tower PC based on a high-end mobile CPU (Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor 275HX) that offers performance rivaling high-end desktop CPUs from just a few generations earlier. I have often been extremely impressed by high-end mobile CPUs as they seem to offer performance close to high-end desktop CPUs while consuming much less electricity. With the high cost of electricity today, I always thought it might be a good idea for someone to come out with a desktop that used a laptop CPU. There would be so many advantages to such a system. With the larger desktop case, the laptop CPU could have access to better thermal cooling so we don’t have to worry about CPU throttling as we would if the CPU was inside a tight laptop chassis. You could design a much more compact case that takes very little desk space. Overall, you would have a smaller, compact computer that is very quiet and offers almost the same performance as a bigger desktop computer while consuming much less electricity. The ASUS V701ML achieves these goals. It is a good-looking computer that takes up less space than a normal desktop computer. Build quality seems good and it offers easy access to the inside for upgrades just by loosening 2 screws. I have been using it mainly for software development in Visual Studio. It performs as well as my other computers using desktop CPUs but consumes much less power. It is also extremely quiet during operation. Editing and compiling code was very zippy. It’s also great for media consumption, web browsing and office work. I tested transcoding video using Handbrake and I was getting over 900 fps when encoding to H.265 and AV1 using Intel Quick Sync. With built-in Intel Quick Sync, this might make a decent workstation for media creation and video editing. For gaming, I tested it with Xenonauts 2 at 1920x1080 using High-Quality settings and I got about 30fps. Cyber Knights: Flashpoint also gave me around 30 fps at 1920x1080 using Best Quality settings. Both were quite playable. I think the ASUS V701ML is suitable for light gaming (such as for turn based games) but higher-end gaming might be a bit out of reach for the integrated graphics. Expandability The inside of the case is very clean with lots of space to work with. It almost looks like a laptop motherboard with laptop inspired cooling inside a PC case. Expandability is mainly limited by the proprietary LiteOn 180W PSU. This is the biggest weak point for this computer. Because it is proprietary, it would be hard to find a compatible more powerful PSU to swap with. There are no extra cables coming out of the power supply that you can use for powering SATA drives or graphics cards. So, I don’t see an easy way of making use of the two available SATA connectors on the motherboard. For graphics cards, you are limited to cards that take their power entirely from the PCIe slot (about 75W). Those are harder to find in today’s market. Overall expandability is good based on the available ports and slots, but it’s all negated by the low powered proprietary PSU. Summary Overall, the ASUS V701ML is an excellent choice for someone who wants a powerful productivity workstation that sips electricity and is not a high-end gamer. It is a good choice for someone who has limited desk space or who wants a clean uncluttered minimalist workspace. Even though it is advertised for ease of upgradability, the proprietary 180W PSU makes upgrading much harder than it should be. If you need a computer that can easily grow as your needs grow, this might not be the best choice.

This is a beautiful desktop rig with a specially designed case and efficient ventilation system designed for easy placement in the home and quiet operation. It felt shockingly light out of the box at about 13 pounds and its dimensions (6.23" wide, 11.88" deep, and 14.05" tall) will allow placement in virtually any décor. It has an attractive dark grey wood grain finish in the front and a truly massive number of ports for easy connection to your peripherals: 1 HDMI 2.1 and 1 DisplayPort 1.4 to your displays and ELEVEN (11) USB ports: ten USB-A and one USB-C – NINE (9) of which support charging. Five are in front and six are in back. Headphone and microphone jacks are repeated in front and back. There is a rear line in input and a gigabit ethernet port. Three features stand out for superior speed and productivity. First and foremost is the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU. It is a high-end mobile processor based on Intel's Arrow Lake architecture. It is a laptop CPU designed for power and efficiency with 24 cores (8 performance cores up to 5.4 GHz and 16 efficiency cores up to 4.6 GHz) with 24 threads. It has 36 MB of L3 cache and 40 MB of L2 cache. It is designed to draw an efficient 55 watts of power. Second is the 16GB of the latest ultra-fast DDR 5 RAM. Third is the 1 TB M.2 Gen 4 SSD. If you need even more space, a second M.2 slot can accommodate a second SSD. It is easy to get inside this case with its convenient tool-less design. One caveat is in order. This rig has an 180-watt power supply. This design choice keeps the rig cool and efficient using Intel’s onboard graphics. The advanced CPU and DDR 5 RAM will speed users through everyday tasks, but this is not a heavy gaming computer by design. If you research this model through the ASUS website, you may note that other configurations offer the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 card for gaming and 3D rendering. Don’t expect to drop an RTX 5060 into this rig. The power supply will simply not support it, and I could not confirm that you can even purchase one of the custom-designed power supplies that ASUS uses for the other configurations. This model is configured only for the onboard Intel GPU and the benefits in efficiency if offers. I have no complaints about the performance of this computer. It absolutely flies through the tasks that I used it for such as office work, web browsing, multimedia consumption and any everyday work you can throw at it. I added it to my home theater set up. It is attached to a 65-inch 4K flat panel. There is no noise and there is no heat. A wired mouse and keyboard are supplied so you can boot it up and get to work or play immediately.

The reason I get this computer is because of its beautiful design, its small and compact size, makes it easily blend in with other stuff in the living room. I have it connected to my 65 inch 4K UHD mini LED television in my living room. I use it for web browsing, casual gaming and mainly watching videos and movies. I am surprise it can handle need for speed hot pursuit remaster in medium graphic setting with ease. I also play simple games like Zuma. With a very efficient cpu and very good air flow design, this computer does not need any extra fan. There are only two fans in this computer, one in the power supply and one mounted on the heat sink of the cpu. The fan in the power supply draw air from the bottom so it is not recommended to place this computer on the carpet. The cpu heat sink is mounted at the back of the case, the fan just vent the hot air directly out the back of the computer. With this design, the computer is quiet all the time, perfect for watching movies. The computer also has plenty of ports, 10 usb-a ports and 1 usb-c port ! I can connect my external bluray/DVD drive to watch movies and connect multiple game controllers to play multi player games. Upgradability is ok. The case employed toolless side panel for easy access. Inside the case, I see one empty memory slot and one empty ssd slot. Also one pcie 16x slot for graphic card and two pcie x1 slot for other stuff. Unfortunately the included power supply can only provide a maximum of 180 Watt. Cannot install any modern graphic card unless you also upgrade the power supply. I am not that lucky as the ssd I get is a Sandisk SN5100S, QLC and DRAMless. Setting up is easy. As usual, upgrading bios will boot and stuck in the bios screen. This is scary for non tech person. Just need to do Load Optimized Defaults, save and exit.

Okay, Set up took approximately 45 minutes due to I allowed windows update during the process. You can skip and do later if desired. I like to get it out of the way! Everything loaded in smoothly, so far a great experience. Thanks to the processor and memory combination, operations were very fast and fluid. The wired mouse and keyboard had quick responses, but i will switch over to wireless as that is my standard preference. Specifications include 8 USB A 3.2 ports. 2 USB A 2.0 Ports and 1 USB C port for a total of 11 ports which is the most I have ever seen for a desktop so plenty of multi uses. Also high speed ethernet, HDMI and Display Port connections. There are available expansion slots. This PC has the ability for a total of 6 TB of storage with 2 SSD NVME M.2 4.0 slots and 1 HDD. >See Pictures< I have included a pic of the motherboard so you can see how easily accessible to everything inside. It currenty has WiFi 6 which is still the standard and plenty fast. Or you could easily replace with a WiFi 7 card! I had the PC running for approx 2 hours and noticed the cooling system is very quiet which could work very well in certain environments like a home recording studio or when using demanding programs. Surfing internet and streaming videos worked well also. I had multiple tabs open, using word program, watching a video etc...This PC did not slow down. There is nothing disappointing here, With the I9 Gen 2 processor having 24 cores (8 of the cores are high performance) combined with 16gb 5200 memory, is a winning combination. Memory is also upgradable to 64gb. Still this could be used for light gaming, but moreso for general use such as surfing, streaming videos of music and running multiple applications with ease. in summery, this is a Wonderful Desktop!!

If you're looking for the most power, most upgradeble PC with flashy Ar Gee Bees you'll need to look elsewhere. If you want a quiet PC that blends into the background without shouting for attention then this might be for you. I love the black faux wood as it gives a nice contrast to all the glass and metal in most PC's. With limited flashiness it just sits in the background while you handle your tasks. The fans don't blast no old school HDD's to whine and whirr, just silence. To achieve the silence they've stuck, basically, a laptop into a PC case. At only 180w from the PSU it's not generating a lot of heat. A the heat pipe going to a large radiator for cooling keeps it cool and quiet compared to most my other rigs. Of course there are trade offs. If you want to fill the PCIE slots (1 full and 2 x1's), you better hit the math and make sure you're not overwhelming the 180w PSU. There are also 3 internal SATA connectors but no extra cables to power any drives. If you plan on stuffing this machine you'll have to hunt for a proper PSU and make sure the pinout matches what Asus includes. 16GB of DDR5 and 1TB supplied by a SanDisk NVME will provide plenty for the majority if users, but if you need more there's an extra RAM slot (SO-DIMM) and a free NVME slot. So if you feel a little squeeze you can grab more if you need. Even though it's not gonna win any speed awards or be a decent gamer this is a great PC for standard web browsing and work, or if you want, make it a lower power/high performance server - though you may have to invest in external solutions for disk drives.

I was looking to replace my CyberPower PC that I bought a few years ago. I was planning to use this ASUS V701 as my daily personal computer where I mostly consume media (YouTube, Prime Video, etc.), take care of emails, browse the web and other productivity tasks. At a quick glance, this ASUS Mini-Tower v701 seemed to fit my needs. It runs a Core Ultra 9 processor, has 16 GB of DDR5 RAM. However, it wasn't until I could really get into the guts of this system where I could really make a decision as to whether or not this can replace my CyberPower tower. What are you getting in the box? You get a keyboard, mouse, power cord and of course the tower itself. The tower has a nice simulated wood grain panel on the front. The front also includes the power button, HDD indicator light, headphone out, combination headset/microphone out, four 10 Gbps USB-A ports and a 20 Gbps USB-C port. On the rear you get a Display port, an HDMI port, 6 USB-A ports, a Gigabit Network port, line in, line out and Mic In ports. After connecting monitor, keyboard, mouse, power and networking, power on was what I expected. Windows 11 runs through setup and afterwards it runs really smoothly. The Core Ultra 9 processor with 16 GB of DDR 5 RAM makes all my productivity tasks a breeze. There is no delay when running normal day to day tasks and heavier things like decompressing a large file, the CPU doesn't even seem like it's heating up. If you're considering a home PC that is just going to be used for productivity, this will definitely handle all the tasks without breaking a sweat. The CPU itself is the Core Ultra 9 275HX. This is a 24 core processor with integrated graphics. The graphics are equivalent to a 1050 card. It yields a total of 36 TOPS. But keep in mind it is a mobile processor, a high-end one, but mobile processor nonetheless. Once you recognize that the tower is built on a mobile processor some of the other pieces start to make sense. Upgradeability is quite limited. There is a spare memory slot for mobile DDR5 RAM stick. There is also a spare NVMe slot for expanded storage. While there is 3 SATA ports on the motherboard, there are no available power connectors from the power supply. When I checked out the output, I saw 12V @ 15 Amps. That runs out to 180 Watts. With the CPU drawing up to 160 Watts, you're not going to be able to power a GPU with any significance. Even an older RTX 3060 runs 170 Watts by itself. That means if you start maxing out the CPU and running memory and storage intensive operations simultaneously, the system will automatically scale back on the processing power. There is a PCIe-x16 slot and two PCIe-x1 slots available for upgrades, but you'll need to be very strategic as to what can be bus powered and still fit under the power supply output. The motherboard itself is customized to the case with the front ports are soldered directly to the motherboard. The power supply is small and therefore offers very limited upgradeability. Will this replace my older CyberPower PC, unfortunately no. The CyberPower PC has a 13th Gen i7, 32 GB of RAM and a discrete RTX 3060 with 12 GB of RAM. It's a better all around PC that will let me dabble with a local LLM and other things I want to explore. If you're just looking for a productivity system that is smaller or quieter than most towers, this will easily handle whatever you throw at it. However, if you want gaming, less restrictive upgradeability, or more bang for your buck, I think you can find a tower with a modern video card for about the same price.

The Intel Core Ultra 9 processor ensures you have a very powerful heart pumping out your workload. The 16GB is faster memory (DDR5) and you can expand the memory easily if you wish. Onboard storage is 1 TB M.2 Gen 4 storage, and it is very fast - wow, and since it is a desktop, you can easily add more storage capacity in this versatile style computer. The upgrades are installed easily with the tool-free design from ASUS. A tip of my cap to the engineers at ASUS for both the specs and the ease of adding components. This unit has great cooling; I could barely hear any fan noise at all. The inclusion of the keyboard and mouse was a pleasant surprise at this price point considering the quality components. I was very pleased that this desktop had a more compact footprint at just 6.23" wide, 11.88" deep, and 14.05" tall, it weighs in at just 13.23 lbs. My space was limited, so this size factor was a big plus in such a powerful device. I wanted a dual monitor setup, so the Display Port was my choice to get the configuration I needed. I connected wirelessly but there is an ethernet port as well as numerous USB A and C ports. I did attach a USB webcam so that I was able to do doctor e-meetings and this worked great. I am very impressed with this product and highly recommend it, especially due to the space-saving design coupled with the very powerful specs and upgradeability.
