About this product

Where precision and safety in solar observation are paramount, the Baader 160mm AstroSolar BDSF 3.8 White-Light Digital Solar Filter emerges as a superior choice for astronomers and astrophotographers alike. This high-quality filter is a product of the renowned Baader Planetarium, a leader in the production of astronomical equipment, ensuring that users receive a product that is both innovative and reliable.Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the Baader Digital Solar Filter is equipped with the AstroSolar PHOTO Film OD 3.8, a film that has stood the test of time and has been specifically designed for digital videography and the lucky imaging technique. This innovative film allows for the shortest exposure times, effectively "freezing" atmospheric turbulences and providing crystal-clear images of solar phenomena.Unlike many ready-made filters that compromise image quality by stretching the filter material taut, the Baader AstroSolar filter is engineered to maintain the film's integrity. The filter must be mounted stress-free to function as a high precision plane optical window, which is why it may exhibit slight ripples - a hallmark of its exceptional design that ensures optimal performance without the distortion found in lesser quality filters. The Baader Digital Solar Filter boasts a durable, temperature-compensated cell that prevents stress on the AstroSolar film during temperature fluctuations. This ensures that the filter maintains its superior optical quality in a wide range of temperatures, from -30°C to +50°C. The film is carefully cemented onto an injection-molded ring that matches the thermal expansion of the AstroSolar material, creating a free-floating film-carrier ring. This ring is then securely held within an aluminum frame by a fiber-reinforced plastic holding ring, providing maximum security and preventing any potential damage to the cell. The Baader 160mm AstroSolar BDSF 3.8 White-Light Digital Solar Filter is an efficient and user-friendly solution for those seeking to capture the sun's splendor without compromising their equipment or vision. Its large 160mm filter size allows for an ample amount of light to pass through, resulting in clearer and more detailed images. Baader Planetarium - 200mm AstroSolar Telescope Filter

Mounted Filters with Baader AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0 After 15 years of offering AstroSolar film sheets as DIY-product, this system of Baader Solar Filters is designed to retain the true optical quality of the diffraction limited AstroSolar Safety Film. Baader Solar Filters provide a professional and secure solution to observe and image the Sun using AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0. Many ready made filters do stretch the filter material like a drumhead in order to make it look like a piece of glass - this absolutely does destroy the image quality, rendering the film useless for high magnification work. AstroSolar must be mounted entirely stress free in order to perform like a high precision plane optical window. It sounds like a contradiction with traditional perception of quality, but AstroSolar must show slight ripples! Only when the film is being put under stress by an improper cell mount it performs just like any single side coated glass-filter made of untreated float glass. Original Baader AstroSolar Safety Film (OD 5.0), cell mounted and quality inspected by skilled members of their staff Clear white IR-rejecting front ring with reinforcing raised edges along the outer and inner circumference, designed to protect the solar filter material from contact with any sharp metal edge No tool mounting and adjustment of the centering bolts to fit a wide variety of mechanical tube diameters. Bolts made to contact the outside or optional (if appropriate) the inside of the optical instrument tube Non-rotating sliding fasteners made from aluminum that hold the centering bolts. These metal sliders are equipped with a machined indicator to point towards the adjustment index Additional Phillips screws are integrated into the sliding fasteners, so that the centering bolts can be firmly fastened with a screw driver if preferred by the user Index scale provided beside each adjustment slot - adjacent to each sliding fastener, for fast and repeatable adjustment of the filter cell onto different telescope tubes Black sliding washers supplied to securely cover the full length of the adjustment slots in the aluminum frame - for blocking sunlight from passing trough the filter cell beside the filter area Three security straps included, to secure the position of the filter cell with Velcro-adhesive pads. A safety feature to absolutely ensure a secure fit in front of the telescope under any circumstances (gust of wind asf) Warning text printed onto the front side of each filter cell: Read the Instructions before use Cardboard gift box fit for safely shipping the filter ASTF (AstroSolar Telescope Filter) Baader Solar Filter for high-end Telescopes This family of solar filters is made in the most elaborate way. AstroSolar must not be put under stress, neither during mounting the film, nor during any temperature change. For this reason the ASTF-Filter features a temperature compensated cell. The film itself is repeatably cemented onto an injection molded ring, whereas the substrate of that ring has the same thermal expansion like the Astro Solar Filter material itself. This free floating film-carrier ring is held onto the aluminum frame with the help of another holding ring made of fiber reinforced plastic - for a maximum of security against breaking of the cell. This temperature compensated cell enables the AstroSolar filter material to retain its excellent optical quality at any temperature - be it -30Deg C or +50Deg C. Safe for solar observation and photography with all high-end telescopes and extreme tele-lenses. Suitable for highest magnifications and detailed observation of individual sunspots AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0, mounted stress free in temperature compensated cell No astigmatism during winter observation or with temperature changes in summer Scope of supply: ASTF Filter come with two sets of centering bolts in 38mm length. 3 bolts with 10mm diameter and 3 bolts with 20mm diameter, adjustable to the tube diameter of your telescope or dew cap.

Baader Planetarium - Semi-APO Filter 2"

It's no secret that astrophotography enthusiasts and professional photographers alike seek the utmost clarity and contrast in their celestial captures. The Baader Planetarium Semi-APO Filter 2" is an innovative solution designed to enhance the visual quality of images taken with achromatic refractor telescopes. This high-quality filter effectively minimizes the distracting violet fringe that often diminishes the sharpness and contrast of astronomical images.Crafted with a potent combination of a stronger Fringe Killer coating and the Moon & Skyglow Neodymium substrate, this filter offers a performance akin to the synergy of the Fringe Killer and Moon & Skyglow filters, but with an intensified violet cut. The result is a filter that not only provides a significant value but also delivers a neutral view that maintains the natural color balance of the observed object. The Semi-APO Filter's high efficiency in fringe reduction is matched by its ability to remain inconspicuous in use. Its presence is virtually undetectable as it works to eradicate most of the violet aberration, leaving behind images that boast remarkable sharpness and enhanced contrast. Even users with smaller refractors will notice a substantial improvement in the aesthetic quality of their astrophotography. Moreover, the filter's Neodymium substrate goes beyond mere fringe reduction. It actively boosts color contrasts, particularly when observing planets such as Jupiter and Mars, due to its RGB enhancement capabilities. This makes the Baader Semi-APO Filter 2" a versatile tool in the astrophotographer's kit, suitable for capturing a wide array of celestial phenomena with increased detail and vibrancy.Durable and effective, the Baader Semi-APO Filter is a testament to Baader Planetarium's commitment to providing innovative optical solutions that cater to the discerning needs of astronomy enthusiasts. Whether you're capturing the grandeur of the night sky or honing in on planetary details, this filter is an indispensable asset for achieving high-contrast, sharp, and aesthetically pleasing astrophotography results.
