About this product
Babel 7.16 by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui & Damien Jalet calls on the shock of languages and bodies from different nationalities, on the diversity and the difficulty to coexist, bringing uniqueness and community face to face. It questions our relationship to change, when technology is constantly modifying our empathies and connections. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui - Flemish-Moroccan. Choreographer. Draughtsman. Vegan. Homosexual. A child of the suburbs. Artistic Director of the Royal Ballet of Flanders and his own company, Eastman. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui never fails to remind us that our identities are fluid and multiple, never monolithic nor static. Such reminders resound in Babel 7.16, whose 'original version', Babel (Words) - made with long-time associates Damien Jalet and Antony Gormley - was an urgent enquiry into language and territory. From the impressive open air venue Cour d'honneur du Palais des Papes, Avignon, France. Recorded live at the Festival d'Avignon 2016 Live musicians Patrizia Bovi, Mahabub Khan, Sattar Khan, Gabriele Miracle, Shogo Yoshii The most fiercely resonant dance theatre of the decade. (The Guardian)

The present album is another in a series of albums featuring works by Andrzej Dziadekfor large instrumental and vocal-instrumental forces. Like the previous in the series, it demonstrates a wide range of the composer's achievements in these genres. The album includes Poem for orchestra (1987), Concerto for violin and orchestra (1992), and Symphony No. 2 'Te Deum' (2000-2002). Arranged in chronological order, they give a cross-section of the com-poser's attainments achievements over a period of fifteen years. This is how the composer describes his music InchThe style of my compositions is the consequence of my faith in the power of expression in music's fundamental elements melody, rhythm, harmony. This is not to say that the impact of the music should be easy.Inch Dziadek treats musical tradition as his source and has respect for it's refinement and identity. An ironic mix of styles and playing games with listeners are alien to him. In his distanced, intimate utterance, the composer builds a dialogue with long-gone conventions, evoking their various aspects with reverence.
