Bach / Schumann / Eggen / Dahl - Inspired by Bach - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Movses Pogossian's follow up to his Bach Sonatas and Partitas recording on New Focus explores three works for solo violin that are inspired by those iconic pieces. Featuring solo music by Kaija Saariaho, Gabriela Lena Frank, and Andrew McIntosh, Pogossian's powerful performances carry the spirit of this most intimate of instrumentations forward, connecting the listener with Bach and extending the legacy of the unaccompanied string works further. He writes InchThis is a happy [album]. It celebrates creativity and beauty, through the eyes of three very different composers. Directly or indirectly, Bach was the inspirational point of reference for each of these works. As for me, conceiving this project seemed a natural segue from my most recent recording prior to this one... As they say, all roads lead to Bach...Inch

After a Mozart with the Quatuor Voce, Juliette Hurel has devised a programme focusing on Bach, featuring two staples of the flute repertoire the Suite for orchestra no.2 with it's famous Badinerie and the Partita for solo flute, his only work for the unaccompanied instrument. To complement this, she has chosen to assemble the most celebrated arias with a prominent part for solo flute, very rarely played outside the works for which they were written the Easter Oratorio ('Seele, deine Spezereien'), the St Matthew Passion ('Aus Liebe will mein Heiland sterben'), the Coffee Cantata ('Ei wie schmeckt') and the Cantata Ich habe genug. For this recording, she plays a modern wooden flute and was keen to work with a Baroque ensemble performing on period instruments and a soprano well versed in this music, Mailys de Villoutreys, a rising vocal star of French scene. The magnificent Trio Sonata BWV 1038 completes the programme in the spirit of chamber music.

Seven composers from four continents and three centuries, together with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach this is the extraordinary repertoire with which the Lux Nova Duo presents itself on it's new GENUIN . Lydia Schmidl and Jorge Paz Verastegui do not attempt saintly reverence, but search, sense, explore Bach and echoes of his music with joy and virtuosity in a wide range of works. There are Rameau's exquisite harmonies, a graceful and witty homage by Shostakovich, South American spices by Alejandro Núñez Allauca, exciting fragments by Tristan Xavier Köster and much more. An album for discoverers and adventurers!
