Bambara - Stray - VINYL LP

The first thing that strikes you about Stray, Bambara's fourth - and greatest - album to date, will be it's pulverizing soundscape. By turns, vast, atmospheric, cool, broiling and, at times - on stand out tracks like InchSing Me To The StreetInch and InchSerafinaInch - simply overwhelming. But Stray is not merely another, better entry in a catalog full of darkly thrilling, blistering experimental rock-via-punk. Rather, early on in it's conception the band made the decision to experiment with new compositions and song structures. The resulting addition of backing vocals from Drew Citron (Public Practice) and Anina Ivory-Block (Palberta) create a hauntingly beautiful contrast to Bateh's drunken baritone on tracks like InchSing Me to the StreetInch, InchDeath CroonsInch and InchStay Cruel,Inch while the Dick Dale-inspired guitar riffs on InchSerafinaInch and InchHeat LightningInch and the call-and-response choruses throughout the album showcase Bambara's ability to write songs that immediately demand repeat listens. These are just a few of the changes that reveal this album to be the monumental step forward that it is. Here Bambara finally sound like they've locked into what they were always destined to achieve, and the effect is nothing short of electrifying.

Black Lips - Good Bad Not Evil - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Bending scuzzy boundaries, 'Good Bad Not Evil' is a coming-of-age garage rock classic record. Full of hedonistic delinquent anthems, the fourth studio album from Atlanta punks Black Lips reaches it's 15 year anniversary. This deluxe edition includes unearthed photos and new liner notes from Jared Swilley and King Khan. The second disc features B-sides and rarities including 'Cruising', 'I Wanna Dance With You' and 'Leroy Faster'.'Good Bad Not Evil' perfectly encapsulates the disillusionment of the mid-00s America, slammed between warehouse parties, DIY generator shows and scattered party pics, which was recorded in a little house in Atlanta that had been converted into a studio called the Living Room. Referencing Shangri-Las in the title, this is where their knack for garage gems met Motown; with bass heavy grooves (later remixed by Diplo), a certified country twang and unabashed bravado. Instant hits like 'Veni Vidi Vici', 'Cold Hands', 'Bad Kids' and 'O Katrina!' immediately became Black Lips staples. This was a band caught in the eye of the storm, the touring continued, the parties didn't stop, this was a band bending the scuzzy boundaries of their chosen genre. The record was hailed by the likes of Pitchfork, who proclaimed, InchBlack Lips are a go-to band for vintage lo-fi freaks, and their raucous live shows have helped them cross over outside of crusty dive bars. 'Good Bad Not Evil', however, is the record where naysayers, disinterested friends and acquaintances, people on the street, and anyone else within earshot has to sit up, shut up, and listen.Inch... and, shut up and listen they did.Disc One - Good Bad Not EvilA1 I Saw A Ghost (Lean)A2 O Katrina!A3 Veni Vidi ViciA4 It Feels Alright A5 NavajoA6 Lock and Key A7 How Do You Tell a Child That Someone Has DiedB1 Bad KidsB2 Step Right UpB3 Cold Hands B4 Off The Block B5 Slime and OxygenB6 Transcendental LightDis

Porridge Radio - Every Bad - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Porridge Radio grew out of Dana Margolin's bedroom, where she started making music in private. Living in the seaside town of Brighton, she recorded songs and slowly started playing them at open mic nights to rooms of old men who stared at her quietly as she screamed in their faces. Though she eventually grew out of them, for Margolin these open mic nights unlocked a love of performing and songwriting, as well as a new way to express herself. She decided to form a band through which to channel it all, and be noisier while she was at it - so Porridge Radio was born. Inspired by interpersonal relationships, her environment - in particular the sea - and her growing friendships with her new bandmates (bassist Maddie Ryall, keyboardist Georgie Stott, and drummer Sam Yardley) Margolin's distinctive, indie-pop-but-make-it-existentialist style soon started to crystallise. Quickly, the band self-released a load of demos and a garden-shed-recorded collection on Memorials of Distinction, while tireless touring cemented their firm reputation as one of UK DIY's most beloved and compelling live bands. As the band's sound - bright pop-rock instrumentation blended with Margolin's tender, open-ended lyrics - has developed and refined, Porridge Radio have also received enthusiastic radio airplay on the BBC, Radio X and more. Now, they are taking that development a step further, as they put out their tag debut, Every Bad
