Badfinger were a Welsh rock band formed in Swansea in 1961. Their best-known lineup consisted of Pete Ham (guitar), Mike Gibbins (drums), Tom Evans (bass), and Joey Molland (guitar). They are recognised for their influence on the 1970s power pop genre. It is estimated that the band sold 14 million records. Initially known as the Iveys, the band renamed themselves Badfinger, after the working title for the Beatles' 1967 song InchWith a Little Help from My FriendsInch (InchBad Finger BoogieInch). From 1968 to 1973, Badfinger recorded five albums for Apple Records and toured extensively, before they became embroiled in the chaos of Apple's dissolution. Badfinger had four consecutive worldwide hits from 1970 to 1972 InchCome and Get ItInch (written and produced by Paul McCartney, 1970), InchNo Matter WhatInch (produced by Mal Evans, 1970), InchDay After DayInch (produced by George Harrison, 1971), and InchBaby BlueInch (produced by Todd Rundgren, 1972). Their song InchWithout YouInch (1970) has been recorded many times, and became a UK and US number-one hit for Harry Nilsson in 1972 and a UK number-one for Mariah Carey in 1994. In 1972, InchWithout YouInch saw co-writers Ham and Evans receive the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically from the Songwriters Guild of Great Britain. After Apple Records folded in 1973, Badfinger struggled with a host of legal, managerial, and financial problems mostly due to their fraudulent manager Stan Polley, leading to Ham's suicide in 1975. The surviving members struggled to rebuild their personal and professional lives against a backdrop of lawsuits which tied up the songwriters' royalty payments for years. Their subsequent albums floundered, as Molland and Evans alternated between co-operation and conflict in their attempts to revive and capitalize on the Badfinger legacy. 'Magic Christian Music' is the second album released by Welsh rock band, Badfinger, who had previously performed and released one album as The Iveys. They were the first non-Beatle recording artists signed to The Beatles' tag, Apple Records. 'Magic Christian Music' includes Badfinger's first international hit, 'Come And Get It', written and produced for them by Paul McCartney. Three tracks were featured in the film The Magic Christian (Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr) 'Come And Get It', 'Rock Of All Ages' and 'Carry On Till Tomorrow'. This is the first time the 2010 remasters of 'Magic Christian Music' are available on vinyl, and the first time the album has been pressed since 1996. Pressed on 180g 'Beautiful and Blue' vinyl, housed in a single sleeve featuring original artwork, with poly-lined inner sleeves.

It was only during Ken Vandermark's residency at the Jazz club The Stone in January 2016 that Vandermark found himself in the same vicinity as Nate Wooley, Sylvie Courvoisier and Tom Rainey. A year later they went into the studio with nine compositions - three each by Courvoisier, Vandermark and Wooley. These four musicians have well-documented, distinct personalities which, in this context, results in performances full of surprises, rich contrasts and shared responsibilities. The music sounds thoughtful, but never over-wrought. They play by intuition, yet retain a vivid complexity. Their composing is transparent and uncliched; their improvising provided with a remarkable coherence and openness. And perhaps it is exactly this - a fresh collective unity that keeps their respective personalities and idiosyncrasies intact - that brings them success in this bold and collaborative performance. Art needs to pique and renew your interest, take you on inspiring and surprising journeys and sometimes even confront your own biases.
