Baptiste Trotignon - Hit - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The organ music of Gerald Hendrie - born in England in 1935 but resident in France since 1996 - encompasses a huge range of influences, among them the organist-composers who went before him (not least Franck, Dupré and Messiaen), dodecaphony, mediaeval plainchant and modality and jazz. The resulting works are as varied as the styles that fed into them, from grandiose to gentle, from severe to whimsical, from lyrical to lively.

Following a large number of multi-award-winning jazz albums, in solo, trio and quintet, Baptiste Trotignon now turns to songs in two ways either by taking over some French classic songs, mostly in solo (Brel, Barbara, Gainsbourg...) or by composing and interpreting them with guest artists. Song Song Song is Trotignon's vision of the universal art of song and features guests artists from several universes, influences and cultures Melody Gardot (performing, in French, Mon fantome), Monica Passos, Jeanne Added, Christophe Miossec...

After 'Share' and 'Suite...' two Franco-American albums that pianist Baptiste Trotignon released a few years ago, 'Dusk is a quiet place' marks the reunion with New York saxophonist Mark Turner. This album was co-directed by two artists who blended their styles to offer dusky and dreamy music, mainly composed of ballads, except for a short final wild samba evoking Sao Paulo nights.
