About this product
Barbarossa, the nom de plume of Londoner James Mathe, follows up his 2013 album Bloodlines with Imager, out May 19th in North America on Memphis Industries. Imager is a cerebral, slow-burning album, tinged with melancholy and an alluring humanism. Mathe's musical journey started with folk-tinged balladry that saw him become part Fence Collective, and subsequently a band member for the likes of Jose Gonzalez, Johnny Flynn and Junip. With Bloodlines, however, Mathe started to infuse his song writing with electronic flourishes, and now with Imager, he has completed his transformation into a fully fledged electronic soul pioneer. Imager, then, is the sound of Barbarossa stepping out of the shadows and into the limelight as a talent to be reckoned with in his own right, questioning his surroundings, his own creativity and coming up with answers that are compelling, affecting and thoughtful. Album Tracks 1. Imager 2. Home 3. Solid Soul 4. Nevada 5. Dark Hopes 6. Silent Island 7. Muted 8. Human Feel 9. The Wall

Vinyl LP pressing. Meric Long and Logan Kroeber recorded The Dodos 2013 album, Carrier, in their hometown of San Francisco. After guitarist Chris Reimer passed away in early 2012, The Dodos reassessed everything about the band - in particular Long's songwriting. InchChris was a huge influence on the way I think about guitar, songwriting, and music in general, Inch reveals Long. InchSeeing how he could transform and shape sound with an electric guitar inspired me to explore more tones and use those tones to begin writing a song. Inch And so, when he began to formulate the tracks that would ultimately comprise Carrier, Long employed two principles he inherited from Reimer patience to let a song develop and a judgment-free enthusiasm for sound. Album Tracks 1. Transformer 2. Substance 3. Confidence 4. Stranger 5. Relief 6. Holidays 7. Family 8. The Current 9. Destroyer 10. Death 11. The Ocean
