Barrera Figueroa Reyes - Ey Trio - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

When opera singers go from their standard repertoire into something new, from the stage to the recording studio or simply from one performance to another, the results may be better or worse, a great achievement or a great disappointment. None of which ever troubled Ettore Bastianini, whose renowned confidence in his own vocal and mental powers would not allow for those all too human failings which other performers may suffer in such circumstances. His authenticity and renown had their origins on stage of course, yet once he had taken that experience into the recording studio, a return to live performance often brought gains in authority and expressive power. The present series of previously unreleased recordings proves this admirably and they are all the more remarkable because they are certainly not the sort of material with which Bastianini felt most at home, (that was always a thoroughly Romantic repertoire, hence dominated by Verdi).

This project has a proposal that through the original composition written for this traditional in the Jazz genre in which textures in the form of the composition are exposed in a relevant way, in which Abraham Barrera proposes a fusion of elements of the classical school, with improvisation, the Mexican and contemporary concept, in it's final result. Each theme of the Peculiar Trio maintains a harmonic structure of wide range and rhythmic / polyphonic / harmonic concept that requires the performers a domain you will see in the instrument and control of different changes of time and structure. The themes have a character among waltzes, Son, Huapango, Danzón, Improvisation, all led to a current and avant-garde contribution. de Lo Peculiar Trío leaves us a range of possibilities in the way of approaching the traditional with a very peculiar concept and sound when listening to the compositions created for this project and executed by the three masters that make up this trio.
