About this product

When one thinks about Beethoven's choral compositions, one might think there is only one the Ode to Joy from the 9th Symphony. But that is not the case! As the Deutscher Jugendkammerchor has impressively proved with this recording, preoccupying oneself with Beethoven's œuvre is more than worthwhile for any choir. Beethoven himself wrote a series of a cappella choral works, most of which are unknown today. Moreover, during his lifetime, composers had already arranged Beethoven's instrumental works for choir in order to express their veneration. The Deutscher Jugendkammerchor presents a selection of compositions from three centuries, including numerous first recordings. From Auld Lang Syne, penned by Beethoven, to a Kyrie by his contemporary Bierey after the first movement of the famous Moonlight Sonata, to modern song transcriptions by Clytus Gottwald - this album brings together secular and sacred choral movements that vary greatly both in expression and style. A discovery!

Knudsen/Rudzinskis Space Big Band - Space Big Band - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Space, endless expanses these are the adventures of the Space Big Band, who travel with a team of seventeen to places that no big band has ever seen before. Space Big Band was named by Danish bassist Kenneth Dahl Knudsen and Latvian saxophonist Toms Rudzinskis. The two got to know each other in Berlin. They hit it off musically and decided to form a band together. Both Knudsen and Rudzinskis had worked for big bands in the past and found that there was a lack of modern, contemporary compositions for such large ensembles. With a host of friends, excellent musicians from Germany, Denmark, Latvia, the USA, Russia, Ukraine, France, Sweden and Austria, they got the project going. The result is the first InchSpace Big BandInch album. The term InchspaceInch has a double meaning. Of course, first of all outer space is meant and the history of it's exploration. The two bandleaders, who each composed five pieces for the album, include references to inspirations from Galileo to Hawking, early geology and the origin of the earth, Johannes Kepler and the frequencies of planets, but also to current space missions and the history of our knowledge of the cosmos. But there is also InchspaceInch in music. It needs space, space for improvisation and collective music-making, as is typical for a contemporary jazz orchestra. The song titles usually make it clear from where the respective piece draws it's inspiration. Both composers studied and researched their subject areas, but the songs do not tell unambiguous stories.

Emanuela Vozza - Cello Sonatas - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

A pupil of the Martin Berteau, founder of the French cello school, and older brother of Jean-Louis, the cellist who is credited with initiating the modern cello school, Jean-Pierre Duport is a figure of great importance on the European musical scene of his time. Exceptional virtuoso, after a successful concert career, he lands in Berlin, where he becomes superintendent of royal music, thus meeting the most important musicians of the time, including Mozart, who composed the famous Prussian Quartets for his cello, and Beethoven, who offered his virtuosity the two Sonatas op.5. This recording brings together two sonatas from each of the four books for cello and bass, which are the entire musical production of his life.
