Beethoven / Duo Alexander - Feuerfarbe - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Chia-Ying Chan, originally from Taiwan, brings passion, vibrancy, sensitivity and creativity to her interpretations of classical music. She is an active soloist and chamber pianist, who has given solo performances and recitals across Taiwan, America and Europe, including at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Austurias (Spain); the Sala dei Notari (Italy); National Recital Hall (Taiwan); Carnegie Weill Hall (New York), and has been invited to perform at the Wiener Saal Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Chan received her Doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, where she is currently pursuing an artist- diploma and serving as the piano teaching assistant. Her DMA dissertation focused on the piano works composed by American composer Harold Shapero. Additional appointments include piano faculty at Community Center for the Arts, and instructor at Discover Melody-an international online-conservatory based out of New York, Beijing and Vancouver. She also serves as Vice-director and adjudicator at Chambana Music Competition. Her new solo features works by Beethoven, Schubert, and Fine.

The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) was initially an armed conflict between a democratically elected government and a revolt by far right-wing Spanish military officers led by Francisco Franco, who were supported by the fascist governments of Italy and Nazi Germany. Anti-fascist supporters flocked to Spain to help the beleaguered government. This recording contains a selection of pro-democracy, anti-fascist songs from that conflict including Woody Guthrie's version of InchJarama,Inch a song about the Americans' involvement on the Republican side. Also featured are Spanish songs the Americans remembered especially fondly, several anti-fascist songs sung in German by Ernst Busch, and songs of combatants who had been captured and interned. Extensive liner notes include a history of the conflict and song lyrics.
