A: It is adjustable. There are three places to move shelf, or you could probably take it out altogether. It seems to be sturdy.
Q: What does the assembly consist of? Just doors or the whole thing?
A: The whole thing. All pieces are labeled (A, B, C, etc) and instructions are really easy to follow. Husband and I were very extremely pleased with the quality and color (shade of rich taupe). Great brand of furniture. Hope this helps...

A: You can't mount it to the stand how it is setup but if your stand is going against a wall you can mount the TV on the wall and hold all the components in the stand.
