Benjamin Alard - Bach: Towards The North - Complete Works for Keyboard 2 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

'The happy years' an expression that is particularly apt for J. S. Bach's period in Cöthen. Freed from the obligations that held him back in Weimar and not yet caught up in the Leipzig treadmill, Prince Leopold's protégé produced masterpieces of such flamboyance that Benjamin Alard could not resist the pleasure of inviting some of his dear musician friends to join him around the splendid three-manual harpsichord by Hass. After five volumes devoted to the early years of J. S. Bach, up to the Weimar period, Benjamin Alard takes an utterly fascinating approach to the first book of The Well-Tempered Clavier. First he offers the listener an astonishing mental preparation on the clavichord, derived mainly from the Clavier-Büchlein for Wilhelm Friedemann. Then he arranges the preludes and fugues in a new order. To play his program he has chosen two instruments from the glorious Hass family of instrument builder, s who possess a festival of colors and registrations each more breathtaking than the last. After stopping off in Cöthen, Benjamin Alard continues his musical journey through the works of J.S. Bach. Here he focuses on the composer's early years in Leipzig, with the six Trio Sonatas, which he performs on harpsichord and clavichord.
