Benjamin Epps - La Grande Desillusion: Edition 1 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The great disillusion is not just a philosophy... It's a reality. After a busy year 2022 ( of his EP InchAre you not happy? Tripled!Inch, concert at the Elysée Montmarte sold out, BET Award trophy for the Best International FlowInch...) Benjamin Epps unveils his first album InchThe great disappointment. Definitely musical, this project shows the extent of the influences and cultural richness of the young rapper who delivers his raw and sharp look at the world around him, accompanied by a cast of guests as eclectic as they are impressive Josman, MC Solaar, Styles P, Angelique Kidjo, and Lino. If the death, violence and failures of those close to him are omnipresent themes that he tackles through an impressive technique, flawless writing and punchlines of which he alone has the secret, Eppsito manages to revive his hopes., to reanimate his dreams, and to put work as a way out, passion as an escape. With this album, Benjamin Epps sorts out his questions, with the only certainty the love of hip-hop.

On Sanctuary, the gifted drummer and composer Matt Slocum continues his long-standing practice of documenting original music and arrangements, eight songlike pieces in total. It's his fourth recorded encounter with master pianist Gerald Clayton, a friend and musical partner for close to two decades, who stands out among a high-technical-bar generational peer group for applying his nuanced touch and precise articulation to telling stories that blend the dialects and syntaxes of the tradition and the here-and-now. It's Slocum's first recorded interaction with bass giant Larry Grenadier, a fixture on the international jazz scene for his 25-year association with Brad Mehldau Trio, as well as consequential engagements with Pat Metheny, Paul Motian, Charles Lloyd, Joshua Redman, and Mark Turner.
