A: t’s a 4K DLP projector that uses TI’s XPR pixel-shifting system. The W4100i has a 0.65" DLP chip and then uses four-phase pixel shifting to put all 8.3 million pixels on screen, which meets the CTA “true 4K” spec. So the image is effectively 4K, but it’s not a native 3840 x 2160 panel in the strict sense.

Solid projector that protects skin tones and has beautiful colors. Blacks aren't the best, even with it's Dynamic contrast rating being so high, it's native contrast rating is fairly average for this type of projector - meaning to get the better dymanic range the projector offers, it requires you to turn on several advanced features that will more or less fake it to the best of its ability, which is still good overall, but would be better when paird with the proper screen. The build quaility is nice, and I love the easy adjustment options with both horizontal and vertical lens shift - easily the best setup we've had in our living rm because of the flexability it offers. What concerns me most though is that some picture profiles, such as the excellent film maker mode, require the physical movement of an internal filter, which means the unit has internal moving parts that could become vulnerable over time. The sound is kind of crazy too, it's not quite when this stuff moves and sounds almost spring loaded though I'm pretty sure it's not... Point being, for a projector with a rated 10+ years of average life in it, that's a lot of articulations and movement that's difficult to test for. That said, Benq has one of the best warranties in the business, and I've come to learn that doesn't mean it's because they make tank-like products, but more like, we've got your back if something happens type products. Additionally, Best Buy's Total Tech coverage is amazing for units like this, which will basically give you the same security, but keep things between you and your local Best Buy!

The W4100i has completely transformed my media room. The 4K HDR picture is incredibly sharp with rich, accurate colors, and it stays bright even with a little ambient light. Once I dialed in the picture mode, movies and sports genuinely look like they do in a high-end cinema. Motion is smooth, and input lag is low enough that gaming on it feels great too. Setup was straightforward. The short-throw flexibility, zoom, and keystone adjustments made it easy to line up on my wall, and the built-in smart platform means I can stream from my favorite apps without extra devices. The fan is noticeable only in the quietest scenes and the built-in speakers are fine for casual watching, but this projector really shines when paired with a soundbar or surround system. Overall, this is an excellent premium projector for anyone serious about home theater. A slightly stronger built-in speaker and a backlit remote would make it perfect, but the picture quality and features already make it a 5-star upgrade.
