Beverly of Graustark - BLU-RAY

In the gender-bender comedy InchBeverly of GraustarkInch (1926), Marion Davies is an American co-ed whose cousin Oscar (Creighton Hale) is a Prince and heir to the throne of Graustark. In a twist of fate, she must switch places with him in order to prevent the conniving General Marlanax (Roy D'Arcy) from becoming King. Along the way, Beverly (as Oscar) meets goat-herd Dantan (Antonio Moreno), hires him as her bodyguard... and winds up falling for him. There are mistaken identities, intrigue, clothing swaps, a chase, a swordfight and more - and in the end Beverly winds up with the goat-herd, cousin Oscar becomes the new King, and there's a big fancy ball. •• Marking a stylistic shift from Marion Davies' earlier features, InchBeverly of GraustarkInch - ably directed by Sidney Franklin - is more akin to her 1928 rom-coms InchShow PeopleInch and InchThe PatsyInch (both 1928). •• InchBeverly of GraustarkInch is presented here in a brand new 4K restoration by the Library of Congress from archival 35mm elements, and includes the film's original 2-color Technicolor ending. New musical score composed and performed on theatre organ by Ben Model. DVD is NTSC, Region-free.

Based on the 1936 screwball classic starring William Powell and Carole Lombard, the 1957 remake of My Man Godfrey stars David Niven (Bedtime Story) and June Allyson (The Opposite S*x). On a mad scavenger hunt, socialite Irene Bullock (Allyson) stumbles upon grizzled street person Godfrey (Niven) underneath an East River bridge. Claiming him as a scavenger item, Irene wins the contest. Delighted and impressed with him, the daffy heiress makes him the new family butler. As Irene succumbs to his romantic charms, Godfrey slowly wins over the entire family with his extraordinary wit and style all except Irene's jealous sister Cordelia (Martha Hyer, Paris Holiday). This cunning, class-act comedy comes handsomely produced by Ross Hunter (There's Always Tomorrow, The Art of Love) and directed by Henry Koster (The Bishop's Wife, Flower Drum Song).
