Big D & the Kids Table - Do Your Art - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Monopercussion 2 is the second expedition of Milosz Pekala - a virtuoso of modern, jazz, experimental and avant pop percussion - into the world of idiophones and membranophones treated soloistically, though supported by twisted electronics, also the ones that are very hardly heard in philharmonic halls, such as the Brazilian pandeiro or the Indian tabla. After all, new rhythms are not to be found in classical composition textbooks. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the list of composers of Monopercussion 2 comprises masters of jazz, ethnic and rock percussion Thymme Jones (American band Cheer-Accident) or Sergio Krakowski from Brazil, besides Pawel Mykietyn or Milosz Pekala himself.

The band calls the style of their sixth full-length record InchstrollInch - a mix of hopscotch, double dutch, soul, ska, and reggae. They also feel it's most like their first record SHOT BY LAMMI. Produced by Joe Gittleman (The Mighty Mighty Bosstones). Mixed by Paul Q Kolderie (Radiohead, Dinosaur Jr., Uncle Tupelo). Look for them on the entire 2009 Warped Tour.

Big Data - the title reveals the defining themes of this recording! The Decoder Ensemble considers the possibilities and consequences of the limitless availability of media in the digital age. All of the pieces here focus in different ways on common contemporary practices like remixing, copying & pasting, sampling, and recycling. An involvement with these techniques is natural for the members of Decoder, three of whom are themselves composers. The group, founded in 2011, calls itself a Inchband for contemporary musicInch and is actively involved in the newest musical developments and trends including electronics, computer techniques, multimedia, and elements of pop and rock music. The idea for this grew out of the group's InchBig Data WeekendInch. According to clarinetist Carola Schaal, this was a small festival Inchorganized in 2017 by the Decoder Ensemble for which the group commissioned eight works dealing with the theme of remix. We chose several of those works for this album, as well as a piece by Brigitta Muntendorf that seems to us to fit perfectly with the others.Inch
