Bikini Kill - Revolution Girl Style Now - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Expanded reissue. Bikini Kill is the infamously fierce, riot grrrl band featuring feminist punk pioneers Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail, Billy Karren and Kathi Wilcox. The Revolution Girl Style Now was their 1991 cassette-only debut. This reissue features three previously unreleased tracks InchOcean Song,Inch InchJust Once,Inch and InchPlayground.Inch These songs feature a decidedly more grunge sound than the rest of the Bikini Kill catalog. Fun fact the tape actually runs out as they're recording InchPlayground.Inch Bikini Kill formed in Olympia, Washington in October 1990. They began working together on a fanzine called Bikini Kill and then formed a band of the same name. The band wrote songs together and encouraged a female-centric environment at their shows, urging women to come to the front of the stage and handing out lyric sheets to them.

Bikini Kill - First Two Records - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2015 that compiles the band's self-titled and Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah releases plus bonus material including tracks never before released on CD. The self-titled 12-inch, originally released in the fall of 1992 is comprised of four songs recorded by Ian MacKaye at Inner Ear Studios; one song from the band's 1991 demo cassette recorded by Pat Maley; and one song recorded during Bikini Kill's live performance April 4th, 1992, at Washington, DC's Sanctuary Theater. Side A of Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah was originally released in 1993 as the Bikini Kill side of their split record with the UK's Huggy Bear. Those tracks were recorded in their Washington, DC, basement practice space on a four-track reel-to-reel in 1992 by Tim Green. Side B featured seven previously unreleased songs that were either recorded live at shows during that era or at Bikini Kill practices. These tracks are released on CD for the first time. Bikini Kill was a feminist punk band based in Olympia, WA, and Washington, DC, that existed from 1990 to 1997. Kathleen Hanna sang, Tobi Vail played drums, Billy Karren (a.k.a. Billy Boredom) played guitar and Kathi Wilcox played bass. Sometimes they switched instruments. Cake - Fashion Nugget - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Alternative Rock-Sounding like a suburban, melodic white-funk-injected version of King Missile's performance art/standup comedy, InchThe DistanceInch became a novelty hit in the fall of 1996, sending Cake's second album, Fashion Nugget, to platinum status. Certainly, InchThe DistanceInch was the only reason Fashion Nugget went platinum, because the remainder of the album is too collegiate and arcane for mainstream music tastes. It isn't because it's obscure or intellectual - it's because the band is smirking. An InchironicInch cover of Gloria Gaynor's InchI Will SurviveInch is the key to the album, sending the signal that Cake consider themselves above everyone else, and nothing is too insignificant to make fun of. And that wouldn't necessarily have been a problem if they had the wit or musical skills that would make their music either funny or listenable. Instead, they wallow in sophomoric jokes that rely on self-consciously elaborate wordplay. Occasionally, their blend of collegiate musical styles - funk, hip-hop, alternative rock - makes the music easy to digest in small doses, such as InchThe Distance,Inch but it isn't varied enough to prevent the album from becoming tedious when played straight through.
