About this product
Bill Fay is one of English music's best kept secrets. At the dawn of the 1970s, he was a one-man song factory, with a piano that spilled liquid gold and a voice every bit the equal of Ray Davies, John Lennon, early Bowie, or Procol Harum's Gary Brooker. He made two solo albums but his contract wasn't renewed, which left his LPs and his reputation to become cult items. But he never stopped writing, the music kept on coming. In his late sixties, he produced Life Is People, a studio album that shows his profoundly humanist vision is as strong as it ever was. Album Tracks 1. There Is a Valley 2. Big Painter 3. Never Ending Happening 4. This World 5. The Healing Day 6. City of Dreams 7. Be at Peace with Yourself 8. Jesus, Etc 9. Empires 10. Thank You Lord 11. Cosmic Concerto (Life Is People) 12. After spending two years living on opposite coasts and pursuing their own creative projects, Ivan Howard and Kelly Crisp returned last spring to set to work on the sixth full-length album from the Rosebuds. Joining up with Bon Iver front man Justin Vernon (a friend and former band mate who, in a 2011 interview, noted that the Rosebuds make 'some of the most important music in the world'), the North Carolina-bred duo spent a week in Vernon's studio teasing out a batch of songs that effortlessly weave the hooky song craft of classic jangle-pop, the cagey romanticism of new wave, and a refined yet full-hearted sensibility all their own. Featuring Vernon on guitar and synthesizers' as well as Bon Iver drummer Matt McCaughan and Sylvan Esso's Nick Sanborn on bass, both longtime pals and cohorts of the Rosebuds, the resulting SAND & SILENCE radiates both a graceful intensity and the loose, joyful energy that comes from making music with friends. Album Tracks 1. In My Teeth 2. Sand + Silence 3. Give Me a Reason 4. Blue Eyes 5. Mine Mine 6. Wait a Minute 7. Esse Quam Videri ; 8. Death of An Old Bike 9. Looking for 10. Walking 11. Tiny Bones

Bill Fay has always sung about attempting to understand the most universal questions those of nature, spirituality, humanity. His songs are Inchcalming hymns for another chaotic timeInch, he says. His influence can be traced through many artist's work, and so it only seemed right to celebrate this with a collection ofnewer voices interpreting his timeless tracks. Originally released in 2010 by David Tibet (Current 93), Still Some Light was released as a double CD, made up of 70's album demos (Disc One) and 2009 home recordings (Disc Two). This year, for the first time, this collection of recordings will be pressed to vinyl and released digitally, presented alongside contemporary reimaginings of the tracks by Kevin Morby, Steve Gunn, Julia Jacklin and Mary Lattimore. Bill Fay's words and melodies remain unaffected by the passing of time and changing trends; and here alongside the original recordings, these reinvented versions still calmly guide us through another moment of chaos. Marketing Sticker Text Bill Fay's Still Some Light was originally released on compact disc as a two CD collection in 2010. Reimagined with new artwork and available for the first time ever on vinyl, Dead Oceans is pleased to present Still Some Light Pt. 1, collecting Fay's archival recordings from 1970 and 1971. Many of the songs are intimate sketches which were eventually re-recorded for Fay's self-titled debut and for his landmark album, Time of the Last Persecution. This double LP set includes heart wrenching versions of some of his timeless works, such as InchI Hear You CallingInch and InchPictures of Adolf AgainInch, and features equally powerful songs like InchArnold is a Simple ManInch and InchLove is the Tune,Inch which only appear in this collection. Album Tracks 1. Backwoods Maze (Still Some Light) 2. The Sun Is Bored (Still Some Light) 3. There's a Price Upon My Head (Sti
