Billie Holiday - Solitude - 180-Gram Solid Blue Colored Vinyl [VINYL LP] Blue, Colored Vinyl, 180 Gram, Spain - Import date 04/08/2022

Billie Holiday started her recording career with an outstanding series of small group sessions for Columbia, made between 1935 and 1941. When she signed her last long-term contract with Norman Granz in 1952, he tried to repeat the small group magic of her early days, surrounding her by brilliant jazz soloists. This album, containing recordings from her 1952 and 1954 sessions, is an excellent sampler of her skills and charms. THE COMPLETE ALBUM + 4 BONUS TRACKS - 180-GRAM VIRGIN VINYL - LIMITED EDITION - LIMITED EDITION OF 1,000 NUMBERED COPIES

When Billie signed her last longterm contract with producer Norman Granz, he tried to repeat the small group magic of her early days. This album contains recordings taken from her 1952 sessions, and is an excellent sampler of her skills and charms. Backed by tight, laid-back session musicians, and with Oscar Peterson playing piano on many of the tracks, Holiday here enjoys the last full flush of her talents before health and substance abuse problems claimed her voice in the late '50s. 23 year-old composer/pianist Ezra Weiss presents an album that features some of the finest musicians on the scene today playing a set of completely original compositions - tunes that draw from the tradition but push forward at the same time. The 9 tunes on this CD display a fresh sense of melody and harmony, a close attention to detail, and a deft approach to arranging, all of which are brought to life by Weiss' stellar supporting cast Antonio Hart on alto saxophone, Michael Phillip Mossman on trumpet, Kelly Roberge on tenor saxophone, Leon Lee Dorsey on bass, and Billy Hart on drums.
