
In July-August 1987, after 100 shows around the world on the Bridge Tour, Billy Joel accepted the Kremlin's invitation to the U.S.S.R. for six fully-staged rock shows in Moscow and Leningrad, fulfilling a long-time desire to perform in Russia. For the first time, a MATTER OF TRUST THE BRIDGE TO RUSSIA, presents an expanded version of what fans saw and heard over a quarter-century ago. The newly remastered 2 CD set adds 11 previously unreleased songs to the original 16-song CD from 1987, which closely recreates Billy's full concert sequence. The extra material includes concert rehearsal takes and TV performances. The Blu-ray features an expanded version of the original 1987 concert LIVE FROM LENINGRAD, newly remastered with seven previously unreleased songs. It also includes a brand-new 90-minute documentary that takes a fresh look at the groundbreaking trip. This new film connects documentary material from 1987 with new interviews of nearly 20 U.S. and Russian participants, including Billy, Christie Brinkley, band musicians, crew, and many others. There is a passion and intimacy to their interviews that underscores the historical significance of what these fellow travelers all witnessed, and the warmth that the Russian people showered on them. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
