Birgit Minichmayr - As An Unperfect Actor: Nine Shakespeare Sonnets - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Founded in 1480, the historic traditions and refined sound of the Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford, have proven fertile ground for generations of composers. From the richly inventive and expansive writing of John Sheppard to the mysticism and passion of James Whitbourn's recent settings, this programme celebrates a unique and finely crafted legacy of choral music and sublime singing that flourishes in our time as much as it did in the 15th century. Inch... an hour of listening that is both of the moment and utterly timeless.Inch (The Independent on the 2013 album Buxtehude Membra Jesu Nostri) InchThe interpretations are forthright and plangent, the young soloists spirited...Inch (The Times on the 2016 album Tomkins Choral Works)

The Fantastic Jimmy Smith is a collection of tunes that are believed to be the very first recordings of the great jazz organist Jimmy Smith as a leader fronting his own band, featuring the singing drummer Don Gardner. The recordings portray a young Jimmy Smith whose style is still in development and shows the direct influence of the great Wild Bill Davis. The album should be a real eye opener for those who are only familiar with Smith’s early work for the Blue Note tag. All selections have been newly remastered.
