I really like this robot. It vacuums and mops great. Only thing is, it does not map the house. So it cleans on a random route. Probably it takes longer time than a robot that can map the house and draw a cleaning route but I’m not sure if they clean this well. I thought of returning it and buying one with more intelligence but because of its perfect cleaning performance I decided to keep it. I love love love it.

I've used this vac twice and so far, I'm very pleased. The trash tank and water tank are a great size! I almost stopped it a few times to empty it because my other robot vac ends up cluttered with my GSD's constant shedding and leaves fur bunnies all over the floor if I haven't used it in a couple days. This one did the whole area and still had room in the trash bin. I'm not a fan of white appliances and such but, the docking station is nice. The only negative I have is the mop pad. Seems a little thin to do a good mopping like the blue Braava Jet pad does. I mopped once with this one and the floor felt clean but it wasn't very dirty. We are in the middle of a remodel so, guess time will tell if the mopping pad is a plus or minus.

The Bissell SpinWave Wet and Dry Robotic Vacuum is an overall well designed and quality made device with a few quirks. Pros: * Packaging - The product came in a well constructed/protective box with everything labeled and neatly packed in side. It had a cardboard insert with quick setup instructions as well as a printed manual. It comes with an extra set of microfiber mop pads, cleaning brushes, and replacement filter. It also includes a trial size of its Multi-Surface Cleaning Solution. * Setup - I found the setup to be very straightforward. I went to the iOS app store, downloaded the Bissell App, and followed the step-by-step instructions in the app. It connects via WiFi (2.4 GHz band) and is controlled within the app. Prior to the first use, it says it should be charged for at least 4 hours. * Battery life - I set it to the wet mode with auto pattern and mid fluid. After about 50 minutes of cleaning I sent it back to the dock and it displayed 1 bar left on the battery. I assume it could have kept going since it did not notify me about being low on battery. The battery life is on par with my other robotic vacuum. * Slim design - It is quite a bit smaller (vertically) compared to my other robotic vacuum which allows it to get under the edge of the cabinets without getting stuck. * Vacuum - The vacuum function works great with strong suction. I have two large dogs and a cat which means I have to vacuum a lot! This robotic vacuum did a great job picking up hair. It will definitely come in handy between deep cleaning with the upright vacuum. Indeterminate: * App - The app is easy to navigate with many great features such as product registration, scheduling, cleaning history, and multiple user videos (maintenance, different modes, etc); however, it is missing a few key features. The vacuum does not have a mapping ability which many of its competitors do. Instead, you just click the start button in the app and it begins cleaning. * Controls - It has limited controls (start/stop, mode for the mop fluid (low, mid, max), and pattern (auto or spot). * Usability - It seems to have trouble with furniture; specifically in my case, it was unable to navigate around the legs of my kitchen table. This resulted in several areas that did not get cleaned. * Mop - While the idea of the mop is cool, its functionality is lacking. It does a great job vacuuming; however when mopping, once the floor gets wet it starts to slip and can get stuck in the same spot. I had it error out a few times saying the front wheel was stuck. Other times it just spun in place. It makes a loud beep and notifies you in the app that something is wrong. This may be due to the vacuum being too light or the floor being too wet. I assume this would have been noticed during the initial product testing. Cons: * Lack of virtual barrier wall - Lets say I don't want the vacuum to clean a certain part of the floor. There is no way for me to tell the vacuum. Many competitors have a virtual fence that can be placed to keep the robot out of a certain area. Overall, I think the Bissell SpinWave is a great robotic vacuum at its price point. It has many great features with a few areas that could use improvement. I hope future generations have advanced mapping features and improved LiDAR navigation.

Summary: This unit does some things very well; if you are considering buying it, the question will be whether it does the things you need well enough and fits your price point. I would probably give it 3.5 stars if I could, rather than 3. I like it a lot, it does basically clean well on hard floors especially. For my household, it cannot entirely replace a regular, powerful upright vacuum or occasionally mopping/swiffering for problem spots on hard surfaces. However, it can greatly help keep things generally cleaner with less work and agitation. This is agitation in terms of actual energy expended, but also, in my case, agitation of my dogs. This utterly shocked me about the unit: while they HATE normal vacuums, brooms, swiffers, mops, etc., going after them and trying to chomp on any cleaning device, they do *not* care A JOT about the robot. They actually stay clear of it. I figured they’d attack the thing the minute they heard it whirring. But they don’t. So, not having to send the dogs out or downstairs or upstairs or wherever just to hurriedly clean something…that’s awesome. To make the machine work well, though, I think means also recognizing this particular unit’s limitations, and probably doing your own research to know for sure what level of “smart” you need in your robot. In summary, it’s just a bit compromised. The app does not do as much as one might want; the robot’s ability to understand a floor plan seems a bit limited, and there are some aspects of its performance that are less than successful. That said, I’m betting a smarter machine is going to cost a good deal more, and this unit can work well under the right conditions. Here’s a ridiculous amount of additional detail to explain more about what I’ve said above. The spinwave bot is a cute device that has a number of good accessories and comes ready to get to work. There is an app that can help you control the robot and also to schedule automatic cleanings. That said, you can operate the unit without the app and there seem to be ok directions for how to activate the different modes manually. That said, I think it’s easier to use the app, so I haven’t put much effort into learning the other features, and maybe I’m wrong about the ease of using it without the app. Things that work well with this robot: --Generally vacuuming and cleaning on hard surfaces. I’ve used this critter on tile and laminate, and it does a good job in dry mode and wet mode. --Sensing and smart movements are adequate once you get the hang of the patterns that the robot moves in. I’ve found that if you start it in a corner or on one side of a room near a corner, it can move through the room fairly well. It may still miss spots, but it can be made to work fairly efficiently. --Pretty quiet while operating. It makes some loud beeps, which can be annoying (or can alert you to the robot having a problem when you’re in a different room or, maybe even sleeping). --Can be set up to run independently with the app, and will accept schedule. --In wet mode, the spot feature works pretty well on hardflooring. It can get out spots that are too stubborn for the regular mopping. --Comes with extra pads and extra brushes, a cleaning tool, and is easy to de-gunk. The brush is actually wonderfully easy to clean, easier than any vacuum I’ve ever had, and the tanks can be rinsed. The filters, however, cannot be cleaned, and the main filter in the dry tank is basic paper filter. --Will generally help you just get tidier without have to do as much work, though does require some work to figure out how to use it best. What this robot is not going to do or is not good at: --It’s not going to make everything spotless and work perfectly. It will leave spots it missed, it may not get the corners, it can’t get stubborn spots/stains out in wet mode when it’s just jotting along. Anything you’d have to more seriously scrub when mopping is going to need some scrubbing till. The spot mode might do it, depending on the stain. --The mapping features of the robot are fairly basic. It doesn’t really remember (from what I can tell) so much as move with a direction of flow and set of parameters for how to function when it meets obstacles. You can’t tell it where to go or make a map for it, so it’s going to be a bit inefficient. By clearing items to simplify the obstacles will improve efficiency (i.e. move kitchen chairs, floor mats, etc.) --The robot struggles to move between area rugs and hard flooring in all the experiments I tried. I don’t have any regular carpeting, just rugs. It sometimes navigates the rug alright, but usually it gets stuck and the feeler brushes on the front of the unit get caught under the edge of the rug. It will push the rugs around sometimes rather than even get onto them. That said, I tried just putting the robot on the rug and getting it going. It struggles to clean the rugs, which admittedly are full of dog hair from two absolutely nightmare shedding dogs. It’s no surprise that even spot mode could suck up their fur—I had a basic upright vacuum for a number of years that could not clean up their fur either. I finally bought a very powerful upright, and I will happily keep using it on the rugs (and stairs) and let the robot do the hard floors and mopping. That said, I don’t know how well this will work for people who really need carpet cleaning. -- The battery charges on the dock, but it seems like every time the robot starts (even when fully charged) it quickly moves from three bars of battery to two. It has enough battery to clean a good size room, but after 90 minutes, it’s probably done. It does not seem to automatically return to its dock when it finishes a room; rather, it just goes till you tell it to dock, or till the battery dies. This is a bit awkward too, because the amount of water and solution that fills the tank for a mopping session is far more than the robot uses in a session. The directions say not to leave water in the tank…but it feels wasteful to lose that much solution—it’s not cheap. So, in conclusion, it’s a great helper for me to just get things done, especially things that I hate to do (sweep and mop). It cannot replace, at least in my house, a full-on vacuum, and it won’t 100% get your floors clean. It may completely struggle with your area rugs. But it’s really quite remarkably smart. I think it’s reasonable to say that if you want more, you’ll need to really research if anything in this price range can do more. Even with its drawbacks, I think this bot is going to help me to be more organized and much cleaner on an everyday basis. I would recommend it, if you don't need to vacuum area rugs, especially after dogs.

The Spinwave is a straightforward, if basic, robot vacuum mop that could arguably stand to be a bit smarter than it currently is. The design is the typical hockey-puck with a bumper form that you get with most robot vacuums. It’s decently nimble and small enough to avoid getting stuck under cabinets or furniture and lacks any kind of intelligent mapping system that’ll work out your floorplan to make sure it reaches every spot with a minimal amount of effort. The white bodywork and stylish glass top look quite classy out of the box and it does a very decent job picking up dust and pet hair from the carpet, but the ultimate party trick comes when you pull off the dust bin and slot in the mop attachment. Robot mops aren’t really anything new – but most are basically just self-propelled Swiffers that glide over your hard floor slowly excreting water and/or cleaning fluid. Bissel has opted instead for a pair of counter rotating brushes that’ll actually scrub the floor as it goes and extend a fair bit outside the edges of the robot itself, allowing for some pretty good floor coverage. And just to make sure it doesn’t try to moonlight as a carpet cleaner, it’s got sensors designed to help it identify when it’s moved onto carpet and back off. It all sounds great in theory and it does mostly work, but there’s definitely some room for improvement to be had. The navigation algorithm it uses seems to favor neat and tidy rows which are easily disrupted by pets, objects in its path, or simply setting the robot down at an angle before you let it start. As a result I found that it often missed spots or got itself trapped running back and forth over the carpet transition because it couldn’t work out that it was time to backtrack. During one of these moments I discovered that whatever sensor it uses to detect the floor type it’s on is a bit lacking in coverage as the left side would always stop the brushes just shy of hitting carpet, while the right would always end up shampooing a 1-2 inch strip. It never let it get any further than that, to its credit, but it’s odd given how adept the other side was at avoiding it. And even after multiple passes in both auto and spot cleaning modes there were still a few bits that I had to go back and do myself because the robot just seems to have forgotten them. With a bit of practice and careful observation you can eventually work out the best place to put the robot to work with the algorithm, but it’s an annoyance I could do without. And this is a bit of a shame because the mop head is actually really, really good. The thicker scrubbing heads let it get into the grout between tile, you can adjust how much cleaning fluid it uses to help speed up drying time or just save water, and it left my kitchen floors sparkling. It ships with a pair of machine washable cleaning pads and a trial size of concentrated cleaning fluid that dries quickly and doesn’t leave a scent behind. I’d probably set it up to run on a regular schedule in my kitchen if not for the fact that it really does need to be babysat to make sure it doesn’t get itself stuck and start beeping for help, so for now I’m thinking I’m going to be sticking to more pulling it out only when required. It does do a bit better as a vacuum, possibly since without the brushes it’s got a smaller footprint to work with. The narrow centrally located intake is a little on the narrow side and not the best at getting into corners or right up to baseboards, but it should be able to hit most of the key trouble spots out in the open (particularly if run regularly.) Noise is a bit of mixed bag. I initially thought it was one of the quieter robot vacuums I’ve tried, but then my roommate who suffers from tinnitus drew my attention to a fairly loud high pitched squealing noise it makes while operating. It seemed to bother my dog too, as he tends to get very agitated if he ever finds himself in the same room with it, something he did not do with the other robots I have used in the past. Ultimately I’d say that the Spinwave is pretty good for its price point, even though there are at least a few features here that are absolutely begging to be included in a higher end model with better navigation that could make better use of them. On balance though I do think that it makes for a more impressive mop than it does a vacuum, and as such would recommend it primarily for people with lots of tile, linoleum, or hardwood flooring.

The Bissell SpinWave® is a 2-n-1 robotic vacuum wet-mops and dry-vacuums your hardwood floors. The vacuum is wifi enabled to allow for scheduling of cleanings when not at home. Robotic vacuum cleaners are the hottest must-have home tech gadget. There is plenty of options on the market. The Bissell SpinWave® Wet and Dry Robotic Vacuum is one such option worth considering if you are in the market for one. The device easy to use, and frankly I don’t know why I didn’t buy one earlier. In the time I’ve had it, we’ve been using it on a regular basis. Despite its quirks, the vacuum does a pretty good job of vacuuming my kitchen tile floor. At this time I have not yet gotten to use the mopping feature, partly because I prefer to sweep it first, and partly for the fact that it would take forever to mop the floors. The vacuum ships with 2 different trays, one for a dry vacuum which features rotating brushes, and one for wet mopping that features a tray to hold cleaning solution that is mixed with water. The box comes with a trial sized cleaning solution and extra mops, which thankfully are easy to remove and attach, and are machine washable. There are extra mopping pads and vacuum brushes as well as extra filters for the vacuum component. Replacing from dry to wet is a matter of swapping out the trays. If you are going to use the wet mop feature, you fill the water up to a certain level marked on the removable tray, then add your cleaning solution to the next level marking, before reinstalling it on your vacuum. Using the device the last few days has been interesting. The big question was “is it smart ?” Well, yes and no. My kitchen floor is tile, while the rest of the house is carpeted. In the near future that carpet and tile would be replaced by hardwood. That said, the soft surface sensor did not stop the vacuum from trying to dust the carpet. The vacuum also had trouble negotiating the various features of my kitchen and dining room. I found moving the dining room chairs away from the area helped it better navigate the floor and in return did a better job of vacuuming. The device does not actually map the object locations as it vacuums, despite it having what it looks like an infrared sensor up front to help guide it. I found it many a time, vacuuming the same area over and over again. A simple pause and manual relocation redefined its cleaning area. I also found its soft materials sensor did not work as I found it several times on the carpet. This is not a carpet capable vacuum and by the instructional materials, it should have stopped and turned around, but it continued to make its way on to the carpet several times. If you have a hardwood floor that isn’t an issue. What this vacuum is good for is a periodic vacuum of the floors/mopping of the floors to maintain your home. It can do unattended vacuum of the floors during the day via scheduling on the app. The app allows for that feature, but the wifi features are limited. I was unable to get the wifi to work correctly. I run linked 2.4/5G access point SSID and I suspect the device requires a pure 2.4 GHz signal and hence was unable to completely connect to the wifi network correctly. When it looked like it connected, I was unable to engage the remote vacuum command. Thankfully for occasionally cleaning, the vacuum can be manually started. I will have to try to get that wifi feature working in the near future. I would like the ability to schedule my vacuums while I am away from home. I would consider that a must-have. Living with the Bissell spin-wave vacuum is rather easy. However, if your home has a lot of objects and not exactly with a lot of open space, the vacuum has quite a time to try to clean your home. I found it took forever to vacuum the floors as it grudgingly bounced around. It’s best to use this if you got a wide-open space for it to speed through the vacuum. It’s actually quite fast when it finds a clear path to vacuum. I also found that the auto-recharge feature, or manual ‘go home’ (two presses on the power button) feature quite amusing. It is quite adept at finding the base station to charge itself and can navigate around obstacles until the next time it is called upon. The return home feature tells me that the programming in the device could do a better job at mapping and navigating the cleaning process, cause it seems to find its way home rather easily compared to when it vacuums. One of the bigger downsides is cleaning the vacuum after each use. If you are using the mopping feature or the vacuum feature, you will need to clean out the trays periodically. It’s not exactly a set it and forget it type of device that self empties its trays. The cleaning process depending on wet mopping or dry vacuum would require cleaning out not only the dust tray but clean the bottom brushes and replace or wash your wet mops. This depending on how often you use it can be a once a week affair. In the short time, I’ve had it, I love using it. As I said, I don’t know why I did not buy one earlier. It helps keep my floor vacuumed while I am busy doing something more important. The device is quiet enough that one can sleep while it’s working its magic. Once I have replaced my carpet/tile combination with hardwood in a few weeks, this vacuum will have a whole new home to explore.

Are you looking for a helper around the house that can not only vacuum your floors, but also do some mopping as well? Here's your new best friend! Pros: - There are many robot vacuums on the market. Not many of them can both vacuum and mop. This one can. It is designed well to accomplish this, allowing you to easily pull out the dry vacuum compartment and insert the water/cleaning solution compartment. The unit seemed to recognize naturally whether it was in dry mode or wet mode just based on what basin was inserted. - It mopped well. Of course you will get a better result with a regular mop and elbow grease, but this does the trick for lightly soiled floors. The cleaning pads can be machine washed for reuse and came out looking good after our first mopping session. They seem well made and should hold up for plenty of mopping cycles. - The vacuum mode is super quiet compared to my other robot vacuum. Even on the strongest power setting you can still watch TV over the noise. - The vacuum has a 3-stage filter to help with motor life. It comes with one extra filter and also extra mopping pads and sweeping brushes. - The app worked well for me. Connecting the robot was easy, and it is also easy to change power modes, cleaning styles (grid or spot cleaning), or send the robot to its dock. You can also schedule when you want it to run in the app. Cons: - My other robot vacuum has much better suction power. Don't rely on this as your only vacuum in your home. I think it is always good to have a standard vacuum for heavy duty and one of these for lighter duty to limit the amount of fine dust/dirt on your floors. If it had a little bit more suction power I would give it 5 stars. I would gladly sacrifice a louder motor for improved cleaning. It does well though, and would still be a good investment with its cross-functionality.

I was excited to get my hands on the new Bissel Spinwave. As a long time user of robotic vacuums and mops, this was the first one I’ve had that can do both. Using a set a swappable dry and wet modules the unit can quickly switch back and forth between functions. Both functions work relatively well compared to similar standalone products. The mop also vacuums which is a cool little feature. When mopping, it can pick up a any dust or minor debris as well. The vacuum module has a decent sized dust bin and has a good amount of suction power for picking up daily dust, crumbs, hair and fur. When mopping, the unit does a pretty good job avoiding soft surfaces like carpets and rugs. It’s not perfect – I ended up with some wet corners from time to time. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but something to note. Keep in mind that although the cleaning features are decent, the navigation isn’t the best. The unit doesn’t map your floorplan, allow for designating rooms or making “no-go zones”. It often struggles to find it’s way home and may need your help once in a while. Not say it isn’t adequate – none of the 4 machines I’ve used have been. The Spinwave may be towards the bottom of that list when it comes to navigation and special management. On the positive side, the unit is surprisingly fast. It seems to scoot around faster than any of the other machines I’ve used to date. All in all, the Spinwave Wet and Dry vacuum has a great cleaning pattern, excellent versatility and overall is highly useful. A great buy for anyone looking to get into a reasonably priced robot vacuum.

This is my first foray into the robotic vacuum and mop arena, so I had high expectations since these things have been around for quite a few years now. The Bissel SpinWave Wet and Dry Robotic Vacuum lived up to some, if not most of those expectations. Short story – The Bissell SpinWave does a great job if it has room to maneuver and plenty of time. The kit is very complete and the app lets you keep tabs on it while you are away (until the battery dies on the SpinWave). Long story: Packaging – the packaging was impressive in that everything was packed in just about the order it needed to be taken out to assemble, charge and use the SpinWave. The basic instructions were even printed on the first cardboard piece that protects the base and holds the actual, printed instruction manual. I guess they had me in mind when they designed that since I love to be brave and figure things out as I go! Setup – The instructions tell you to charge it for four hours before first use and I really tried to reach that time but I just couldn’t! It is hard enough to wait for something that is sitting in a box, but pull it out, set it in front of me and self control just flies out the window! Setup is a breeze, the charger sits in a perfect little cutout on the base and the robot itself has some pretty generous charging pads under it, so it doesn’t have to be right in the perfect location. The lights fade in and out to let you know it is charging, along with a pretty decent beep when it first starts charging. There is no mapping function, so there is no setup for that and the phone app is basically to allow you to turn it on and off and to let you keep track of how long it has run and what its current status is. I ended up using it at my classroom, so it is nice to be able to see how long it ran before becoming trapped somewhere – more on that later! Once the phone app is installed and the machine is charged up, it is time to play… I mean get to work! Using – I set the SpinWave up in my home but had very little hope of it working since we have very small areas to vacuum and even less to mop. We have a small house and there are just no areas for it to get its bearings and get to work. After about 9 minutes, it had found its way under a rocking recliner that it couldn’t find a way out of. A few minutes later, it was stuck between a couple of dining chair legs and beeped to let me know it had given up. As I mentioned earlier, I took it to my classroom and set it loose on a fairly clear floor. Only table legs were in its way, so I expected a quick run around my recently swept room and I could tuck it away for the day to start. After over an hour, it was still happily running its little pathways around the room. It seems to automatically stop and turn around when it had gone about 20 feet. I say “seems” because each successive run is a bit different in length! Without a map of the room, it goes back and forth over the room from different angles as it winds its way around table legs, carpets and whatever else it can find to bump into. Because of its height, it even bumps into the kick panels on the counters and other things you would expect it to be designed to go under. This first run saw all sorts of lint and hair picked up that I thought had been cleaned up with the big dust mop that I run over the floor daily. Obviously, it does a much better job than I do! One note – it does have a pretty high pitched scream as it vacuums, it sound comes from the fan but on a tile floor it has nothing to muffle it so the sound was annoying as I was grading papers and you would definitely not want to run it while you are trying to sleep! At the end of the school day, I cleaned the little sweeping fans and the vacuum roller, then changed it over to the mop tray and set it loose again. After 45 minutes, it had gotten itself stuck between a stack of student chairs, a book case and a carpet floor mat. I am surprised it was able to get as far back in there as it had, but since it was programmed not to mop carpet, it had found itself stuck with no clear path to clean tile. After 45 minutes, it had used less than half of the reservoir of cleaning solution. Not bad for the amount of flooring it had cleaned. The cleaning solution was mixed as directed and left no residue on the floor that I could see. It cleaned pretty well considering the round pads are so small. The mop is so quiet that I had to keep checking on it to make sure it was still running. No fan sound, so it does really well in a quiet room. The last mopping time, it ran for 1.8 hours and 3203 feet before it stopped. By the time I got back, it had gone dead so I am not sure if it was the battery or getting stuck that stopped it. Without a way to map out the room, it seems to try to keep going in a straight line after adjusting its direction around obstacles. This proves too much for it when it is mopping since one of the drive wheels ends up on the wet part and one on dry tile, allowing it to spin a bit (maybe that’s where they got the name?) before trying to go again. This results in the straight lines becoming more diagonal as it works, but this does make it more interesting to watch as it constantly corrects its course and goes off in a slightly new direction. Conclusion – Overall, I am a bit disappointed that it doesn’t map out the room in any way. I guess I assumed these things would keep track of what they had cleaned in some way. The SpinWave seems to just continue cleaning until it runs out of battery. Since there is no mapping, it also has no idea where its base is, so it has yet to end anywhere near it and when the battery goes dead, it also can’t beep or tell you anything on the phone app. I have been using it for a little over a week and am very happy with the actual cleaning results while it is working. Since this is my first robotic vacuum, I am not sure if any others would do any better on the obstacles, mapping or not. Aside from the noise the vacuum makes on bare tile, I am pretty happy with this little monster. My students want me to run it while they are there, but I don’t need any high schoolers trying to ride it! If you have sufficient room for it to run around in, I would say this is a nice way to drag out the time it takes to clean, while allowing you to do other things – or just watch it do the work! If you have a small home with short paths, it may not be that useful. My wife was excited when I turned it loose at home but quickly got frustrated that it had to be rescued so often. With an extra set of sweeping brushes and mopping pads, a cleaning tool with cutter for hair and string as well as a pretty decent “trial” size solution, the kit is very usable right out of the box.

Boy, was I looking forward to receiving this product. I hate to mop floors. There’s never a good time to do it during the day (y’know, when I can SEE the dirt) because of family foot traffic. When it gets late enough when everyone is in bed (but me, of course), it’s Mom Time and cleaning is last on the list. So, what better product for a busy household that an automatic robot mop? Not this. Now, this isn’t to say it’s not a quality product. It’s Bissell, a company that I admire for their work with animal rescues (all three of my dogs are rescues). It’s a trusted brand. The design is attractive (white instead of black like most robots is a nice change) and uses the same cleaning fluid as their other Spinwave products. Easy to buy just about anywhere. (Side note – would manufacturers please make up their mind about cleaning fluid concentrates? Lately I’ve had fluid that required no water mixing. What came with this product was a concentrate. I didn’t realize this at first and used too much cleaning fluid. Please stick to one type or put neon signage on the package so people don’t miss it. Thank you.) One thing I did not like was the separate tanks for vacuuming and mopping. It makes the unit convenient (2 functions in 1) but if you want this to be something automatic that you don’t have to think about much, you need to consciously remember to switch tanks. To me, you should be able to program the unit for whatever routine you want without having to worry about switching tanks (example – I want it to vacuum the living room in the late evening and mop the kitchen after that). It’s not that advanced. The first time I set up the unit to run, the first thing it did was get stuck on the legs on my table. I had to go rescue it. Then it got stuck on a string on a throw rug. Rescue again. Then it died overnight without warning in the middle of the kitchen. I would have thought that, had the unit sensed the low battery level, it would put itself “home” to charge. Nope. The second day it got stuck on the same rug (I put barriers up after that so it wouldn’t go to the rug). Then later it got stuck on my anti-fatigue mat. Later, it started beeping that it was out of fluid. OK, I tried to go into the app to turn off the alert so I could get to refilling it in a bit. No such luck. Not only could I not shut the alert off in the app, I couldn’t do ANYTHING in the app with this alert overriding everything else. I couldn’t even turn it off remotely. I went to the kitchen to turn off the alert and it still wouldn’t shut off without completely turning it off. You should be able to turn off an alert at least for a minute or two to allow you to get to the unit to fix it. I didn’t want to wake the house up just for a mop. Third try, got stuck on the anti-fatigue mat…twice. The unit doesn’t use a lot of water on the floor, which is good…to a point. I would have liked it to have enough water to be visible, though. There were times that I wasn’t sure if it had missed a spot or not. It’s OK for what I need it for, but it’s not as convenient as it could be.

One of the jobs I absolutely do not like to to is mop the kitchen floor. Between my wife I and we work, plan, organize, cook, clean, and wash dishes every single day for our family of 4. We have a high-quality stick vacuum that makes cleaning up dry debris quick and easy, but neither of us loves the idea of getting out the mop and bucket to clean up small wet messes or dried, caked-on goo on the kitchen floor. So before we got the Bissell SpinWave robotic vacuum, mopping the kitchen floor was a "sometimes" job (read: hardly ever). That has changed, now! The SpinWave did an excellent job when presented with a dirty kitchen floor that hadn't been scrubbed since I can't remember when. It followed a path through the kitchen and used its sensors and bumper bar to avoid walls, table legs, appliances, and cabinets. In dry mode, it does a fairly decent job of vacuuming up small debris, but it didn't get everything I hoped it would. Perhaps if I had let it go longer it would have made more passes and picked up more stuff, but as I mentioned, I have a good, easy-to-use vacuum for picking up debris. In wet mode, the SpinWave does a great job of identifying corners and paying special attention to them. It also is very thorough in finding all areas and going over them more than once. The wet-mode attachment has its own small compartment for storing things the vacuum picks up, meaning even if the dry-mode sweep misses something, the SpinWave may still pick it up in wet mode. The SpinWave is designed to recognize soft surfaces like rugs and carpet and avoid them when in wet mode. I found this to work okay with a fairly thick rug in the main rooms of my house, but it didn't work so well detecting the low-pile kitchen rug in front of my sink cabinets (see photo). No matter, I simply shook the rug outside to knock off dust and dirt, then rolled it up and used it as a barrier to keep the robot in the kitchen. On wood floors, the SpinWave does excellent as well. The package comes with a small bottle of multi-purpose cleaning solution, and I was pleased that it did a good job cleaning the floors, but Bissell makes a cleaning solution just for wood floors, and I'm looking forward to trying that in the near future. I have not yet tried the experience of letting the SpinWave roam free through the house when I'm not watching it work. I'm not sure I ever will. For me, this machine is perfect for its ability to do a job that wasn't getting done, and for doing specific tasks when I'm close at hand. For my use case, I'm pleased with this little robot.

I would have kept it if I wasn't always running into issues with it getting some sort of errors with unrecognizable surface, or getting stuck by carpet tack strips, it would have to go over to get to the next section to vacuum or mop. The mop and vacuum are very handy, but there is no floor mapping in the app, and the vacuum was too tall to clean fully underneath the cabinet overhang on the floor area, as well as, I would constantly hear it beeping about something to do with it being stuck at the spaces where it will get so far and get backed into a corner and can't get out.

I received this product in exchange for my fair and unbiased review. TL;DR - the Bissell SpinWave robot vacuum and mop is not only an excellent value for what it is, but it does a job comparable to machines more expensive than it is. It's quiet enough to run while on the phone or during a video conference call while vacuuming, it's almost silent while mopping, and it does an awesome job in both modes. The ONLY THING I wish it had was a virtual wall, a feature I constantly used with my older Bissell robot vacuum. Otherwise, you can spend more on a robot vacuum and a robot mop and still not have machines that can do either job as well as this one does by itself. Initial impressions and setup: So in the box, you'll find the SpinWave robot with the vacuum collection chamber, corner brushes, and rechargeable battery all pre-installed. You'll also find the mop module with two microfiber pads installed, a bottle of cleaning solution, the dock and charger, brush roll cleaner, extra corner brushes, microfiber pads, and instruction literature in the package. Initial setup is straightforward. You'll want to charge the robot overnight before you proceed with setting up the connection to your WiFi, so you piece the charging dock together. Keep in mind that you'll want to make sure you have about a foot on either side of the dock at the minimum for placement. Power the robot on and set it on the dock, making sure its charging contacts touch the dock's charging contacts; when this is done properly, you'll see the power indicator and the ring of LEDs on the robot "breathe". Make sure that you install the Bissell Connect app on your phone before you continue with your setup. You'll need to make an account with Bissell to do this part, but you get the option to not receive emails from their marketing team so that's a win at least. Once that's installed and the SpinWave robot is fully charged, you'll use the Bissell Connect app to configure the robot's connection to your network. This is necessary for using the device outside of the very basics; as there's only a power button on the unit, you won't be able to adjust settings or set timed cleanings otherwise. Unit setup is very straightforward though - you'll find a QR code sticker on the bottom of the robot, it'll ask for your WiFi password, and you're done at that point. As far as design goes, the SpinWave robot itself is very clean in terms of design. The interchangeable bins are simple to manipulate. The vacuum collection bin is easy to empty and the filter is easy to clean and change. The mop pads and tank assembly is easy to fill and easy to clean. The corner brushes are easy to change out. The only part of the design I could knock is the charging dock could snap together instead of how it goes together. Usage: The controls are very simple. When you've viewing the screen in the app for your SpinWave, you'll see a start button and a few controls at the bottom to adjust cleaning settings. For the vacuum mode, you can adjust suction and whether you want a wide area clean with the automatic mode or you want a focused clean with the spot clean mode. For the mop, you can adjust how much cleaning solution or water is used and whether you want to have it clean a wide area with auto mode or clean a small area with spot mode. While it's on, the start button is replaced with buttons for pausing the cleaning cycle and stopping the cleaning cycle so the robot can return to its base. You select the cleaning mode of the machine by inserting either the dust collection bin or the mop pad/solution tank into the SpinWave robot. While some combo robot vacuum/mops can do both in one unit, having a "one or the other" device makes it less cumbersome to empty the dust collection bin and the water tank after use. The vacuum mode works best on hard surface floors but does a good job with short and medium pile rugs. While it won't have the same power as a plug-in upright or can vac, it was able to get a significant amount of dust out of my medium pile living room rug and my short pile bedroom carpets. My hard surfaces were nearly debris-free after a cycle, including picking up a bunch of paper bits my child left on the floor. It also does a decent job of transferring between medium pile rugs and hard floors, along with clearing transition pieces between flooring surfaces you may have. The low mode is very quiet and good at picking up debris off of hard floors but not carpet, medium is still not annoyingly loud but will do a better job at picking up debris, and max mode is loud enough where most webcams and some phones and headsets will pick up its noise in the background. Where it shines, however - no pun intended - is moping. The SpinWave's mop pads do an excellent job at getting grime off of hardwood, ceramic tile, and vinyl. Something else the SpinWave does is stay off your carpet in mopping mode; I even tested this in my basement where I have an outdoor rug on the floor and when the robot came in contact with it, it turned away as to not get the rug wet. The only noise my unit made while mopping was wheel noise, but it's quiet enough to run late at night so it mops while you sleep. It did an excellent job at getting sticky stuff and stuck stuff off the ceramic in my kitchen. I tried with orange juice, pizza sauce, bacon grease, and chocolate sauce, and all 4 were cleaned with ease. One thing that the SpinWave can do while mopping is sweep up some medium-sized debris. However, there isn't very much capacity for debris to get swept into and there is no vacuum running while mopping so it won't pick up small debris like dust and sand, so make sure you vacuum first. Also, keep in mind that if you have certain other Bissell cleaning machines like the CrossWave vacuum/mop, you can use the same cleaning solutions with the SpinWave. You can also use straight water if you want to. Setting automatic cleaning times is also simple. You tell it what days of the week you want it to run, what time, and if you want it in low, medium, or max mode. You can also set multiple schedules for cleaning. Drawbacks: The biggest thing I'm missing is either room mapping or a virtual wall. I have an older Bissell robot vacuum and it has the virtual wall capability; being that I want to keep this unit in my kitchen and living room instead of having it clean the entire house in a single go, I'm actually annoyed that there isn't a virtual wall available (or if there is one, that I can't find it). While I can stick a 2x2 or a heavy box in front of a doorway, that's not an ideal solution for keeping the SpinWave in one part of my house. The other thing I noticed today is when the SpinWave got stuck trying to figure out how to get out of a predicament it got itself into, it beeped loudly instead of sending a message to my phone. I would much rather have the unit alert my phone to problems than beep loudly, especially if it's mopping at night. Conclusion: For the price, you can't go wrong with the SpinWave. It's a good robot vacuum cleaner for hard surfaces and short-to-medium pile rugs and carpet, it's a great automatic mop, it's quiet, and it's easy to use. Add the virtual walls or room mapping and it would be nearly perfect for the price.

First, the things I like about this robot vac. The unit is relatively quiet during both vacuum and mop modes, though I have experienced quieter vacuum-only models. It's vacuum and mopping capabilities are quite good, though with small children who love to throw big scraps of food on the floor, you still have to tidy up for the robot so he doesn't smear something everywhere. As for downsides - The app isn't very good. Takes a while to connect, not great in terms of alerts/notifications. The actual robot seems to get stuck more than other robot vacs have, which is strange because it totally avoids the carpeted areas. I found myself having to go hunting for it and it has never actually completed a tour by itself, without me having to dock it manually. The navigation is OK, it doesn't just bounce everywhere like pong, it sweeps in stripes which means it covers most areas without having to cover some 40 times. Finally, though it does vacuum carpets, it's kind of clunky getting it to switch from mopping to vacuum and vice versa. That may be a deal killer for some homes as having hardwoods covered by area rugs is a common thing in most homes. People are buying these to limit the need to mess with it too much. Overall, I think this product suffers in the way other "hybrid" products might. Kind of like my hybrid bike that's a bad road bike and a bad off road bike. Is it a great vacuum? It's OK. Is it a great mop? OK. Is it a great robot? OK. So, in the interest of not having all three of those lying around crowding up the house, is this a product worth getting? I actually do think so, but only if you don't have any carpeted areas.

Very good cleaning the vacuum works great I have two dogs and two cats so I run it every two days or so and the amount of hair/dust that it picks up is unbelievable, the Mop is great too just a extra bonus that I don’t mind having I purchased the pet formula with febreze and it works great I would definitely recommend this vacuum and the fact that they donate to help homeless animals with every purchase just sold me.

Great machine. Cleans very well and small enough to get in hard to reach places. I have Brazilian cherry hardwood over 3000 sq ft that I wash with this unit with a 50/50 mix of white viniger and distilled water and they come out great with no film. Well worth the money

The appliances I purchased have been working great so far. The installation of my washer and dryer went smoothly and there was good communication before delivery. One item was not needed and the install person returned it for me. (I do think it was unclear on the website--it appeared an item I needed.)

I tested this vacuum with two cats. The goal was to eliminate the constant tumbleweeds of cat hair drifting through the living room. In general, the robot does well on both carpet and hardwood. It does a good job picking up the cat hair and bits of litter that always manage to wander away from the boxes. The mopping function is an added bonus from the standard vacuum. However, when in mopping mode, it does not always do a good job of avoiding carpeted areas like it says it is supposed to do. Therefore, I can only allow it to mop while I am home and able to supervise. The vacuum function can run anytime. If the battery runs low when it is in the same room as the docking station it usually makes it back, but otherwise I have to return it to the docking station. It also seems to get itself trapped under furniture like chairs, which can get a little annoying. But, I hate sweeping/vacuuming more, so it is a tolerable inconvenience. I’m not sure if it’s me or the vacuum, but I have not noticed the gyroscopic mapping. The robot seems to wander more than expected. With that being said, I am still a fan and I would recommend this to a friend. For the price, it is a great deal to have both vacuum and mopping functions.

This thing is horrible. I had an iRobot before and the only good thing about this one is it’s quieter than the iRobot I had. It has NEVER returned to the dock to charge, it rides around and goes dead or gets stuck. You can manually place it almost on the dock and it still can’t find it. Never again! I will definitely be buying another iRobot on my next vacuum purchase.

Lov, love, love this little guy. I call it my little helper. I tried several robotic vacuums before this, didn't like any of them. If you want something that both vacuums and mops well, BISSELL SpinWave® Wet and Dry Robotic Vacuum is your choice.
