Blaine L. Reininger - Instrumentals - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of the classic album from Tuxedomoon member Blaine L. Reininger, originally issued by Crepuscule in 1984. Night Air was recorded in Brussels in 1983, shortly after Reininger left Tuxedomoon, in collaboration with former Sleepers guitarist Michael Belfer. Other guests include Steven Brown and Winston Tong of Tuxedomoon, and Marc Hollander of Aksak Maboul. The final mix was supervised by Gareth Jones, famed for his work with Depeche Mode, Einsturzende Neubauten and Wire. The part-instrumental album offers a sequence of bittersweet expatriate vignettes. The 10 core tracks on Night Air include popular single 'Mystery and Confusion, as well as 'Birthday Song' (originally performed by Tuxedomoon), the elegiac 'Ash and Bone', and the exquisite baroque pop of 'A Café au Lait for Mr XYZPTLK.' The six bonus tracks on Disc 1 include 'Windy Outside' (a collaboration with Mikel Rouse), 'The Sea Wall' (performed with Durutti Column) and two versions of 'Crash', written by Reininger and Belfer in 1980 for Tuxedomoon, and subsequently remixed by The Residents. Disc Two preserves a previously unreleased live recording from Bologna, Italy, on 19 March 1984. 2018 . The Blue Sleep is a studio album by Blaine L. Reininger, the Colorado-born composer and founder member of avant-garde music group Tuxedomoon. Written and recorded by Blaine in 2017, the album was mixed in his adopted hometown of Athens by noted electronic music producer Coti K. Like most of his previous solo projects, The Blue Sleep combines vocal songs with atmospheric instrumental tracks, three of which ('Lost Ballroom', 'Jacob's Ladder' and 'Odi et Amo') were written for Caligula, a theatre production. InchThese days the music plays me,Inch explains Blaine. InchThe unifying principle behind the songs on Blue Sleep is the method of composition. I apply fine old aleatory techniques - John Cage, William Burroughs, Tristan Tzara - and filter these through my instinctive knowledge of melody and harmony. Lyrics are generated algorithmically (I work with programs which assemble phrases according to mathematical rules) and then edited by me, with phrases suggested by the random output. Book of Hours was first released by Les Disques du Crepuscule in 1989. Guest musicians on the album include Tuxedomoon members Steven Brown Luc van Lieshout Paul Zahl & Ivan Georgiev as well as Ludus guitarist Ian Devine while the single was a surprise funereal cover of El Paso by Marty Robbins. The CD has now been remastered with five bonus tracks including Bay Bridge the rare film soundtrack contribution Blackout & two tracks (Cosey Little Planet Burnsday) from the rare single Orphans, released in a limited run of 100 copies in 1997.
