About this product
Michael Blake is South African composition's most important link to the American and British experimental traditions of the second half of the 20th century. It is a connection that derives as much from the composer's temperament and aesthetic sensibility, as from more conscious decisions relating to the socio-political positioning of composition. As regards the former, Blake's affinity with composers like Charles Ives and John Cage precedes his mature engagements with these composers through an embrace of certain qualities of openness relating to musical structure and material that can be heard throughout the works recorded on this album. Blake's Inchsong without wordsInch demonstrates deconstruction, playfulness, irregularity, irony and a postmodern referential sensibility. Apart from Inchsong without words,Inch which was written in 1972, the seven other works recorded on this album date from between 2008 and 2016, a period of mature compositional activity bookended by the composer's retirement to the village of Hout Bay near Cape Town late in 2008, and relocation to France in 2015. Album Tracks 1. The Philosophy of Composition 2. The Richter Scale 3. Sonata 4. A Fractured Landscape 5. Connectivity 6. Pentimenti 7. Song Without Words 8. Seventh Must Fall

This formidable ensemble, founded in 1991 and an international symbol of fine chamber and string music culture, demonstrates musicological centres with the aid of three works the Gaede Trio works it's way elegantly into each composition and discovers a particular timbre and depth in each one. It is simply delightful to follow these chamber musicians as a listener because it is an experience. (Das Orchester) Inch... seldom has a string trio displayed such smooth tone and cultivated playing. Even more impressive are the apparent ease and balance; their early Schubert is calm but always so fresh and alert that it never sounds old-fashioned. This is a graceful, lilting performance; a few exaggerated phrases add color without distorting the line If this performance (Dohnanyi) fails to erase memories of the Heifetz-Primrose-Feuermann recording, it does replace that classic as the one I will listen to most often. It also reveals the Gaede's range this could be three different ensembles, specialists in the Classical, Late-Romantic, and Expressionist repertoires.Inch (Fanfare) Album Tracks 1. Streichtrio B-Dur D 581 (1817) 2. Windspiele FÜR Violine, Viola Und Violoncello (1995) 3. Serenade FÜR Violine, Viola Und Violoncello Op. 10

The English composer Howard Blake is a living legend with soundtracks like InchWith Umbrella, Charm and BowlerInch and the Academy Award winning InchSnowmanInch. That such a musician invites someone to make music is probably quite unlikely. That he then also places a new work on the music stand for a premiere recording is almost a miracle. The multi-prize-winning Benedict Kloeckner (b. 1989) is a rising star on the cello scene in Germany and, increasingly, internationally. In 2012 he has got his Master of International Solo Performance from the prestigious Kronberg Academy. Album Tracks 1. Prelude Moderato 2. Scherzo Vivace 3. March Tempo Di Marcia 4. Waltz Vivo 5.
