Bloch - Sym in E-Flat Major - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Challenge Classics celebrates the Rachmaninov anniversary (150 years from his birth) with two noteworthy releases. The first one is a stunning debut recording by a young piano trio with strong, original and much thought-out ideas. Their account of Rachmaninov gigantic Second Piano Trio takes the listener back to the 'period' playing of the composer's contemporaries. Not only - and not just - gut strings, but more liberty and agility in tempo, rhythm and phrasing, in the quest for the 'human voice', which was the romantic basic principle of interpretation. This philological venture is anything but a cold 'case study'. Just listen and get seduced by the warmth and passion of the music and it's performance.

This is re- of a bestselling SWR album. It contains major but rarely played works for piano and orchestra by Ernest Bloch, in the interpretation of Jenny Lin, who is the ideal pianist for these demanding scores. The excellent sound quality makes this album of late Romantic and neo-classicist music a great listen. Jenny Lin studied with Noel Flores at the Hochschule fur Musik in Vienna, with Julian Martin at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, and with Dominique Weber in Geneva. She currently resides in New York City where she serves on the faculty of the 92nd Street y Music School. She is one of the most respected young pianists today, admired for her adventurous programming and charismatic stage presence. She continues to receive accolades worldwide as an orchestral soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. The New York Times writes InchNo one who has heard [her] will need to be told that Ms. Lin has a gift for melodic flowInch and Inchremarkable technical command,Inch the Washington post praises InchLin's confident fingers... spectacular technique...
