About this product

Over two decades into the ever-evolving world of Blue States, Andy Dragazis returns with new album, InchWhere The Fades MeetInch. Dragazis expands his signature cinematic sounds, placing a six-piece choir at the heart of the record. Continuing with the motif of big, atmospheric, widescreen production, but this time built around a small choir singing lead vocals in unison, the album transforms intimate songwriting into something communal and immersive. The album marks another step in the evolution of Blue States, which has morphed over the years from a one-man project, to a live band, and now back to a studio-based solo project. Most of the album was recorded in Dragazis' London based studio, with the choir and strings tracked separately. InchRecording an album with a choir and a string quartet felt like a way of pushing myself both musically and technically - taking me out of my comfort zoneInch says Dragazis. The choir came together after Dragazis reconnected with Tahita Bulmer (New Young Pony Club) who had collaborated with him on second Blue States album Man Mountain. Bulmer introduced him to vocalist Stacey Dowdeswell. Dowdeswell helped assemble the six-piece vocal ensemble for the sessions, whose performances were largely recorded live in one take, capturing a raw, unpolished immediacy which adds to the human fragility and sense of presence at the core of the album. Bulmer herself joined the choir, marking a full-circle return to their earlier collaboration more than twenty years ago. Also featured throughout the album is the acclaimed string quartet The Elysian Quartet.Where The Fades Meet stands out as one of Blue States' most expansive and immersive works to date, balancing intricate orchestration with emotional intimacy and blurring the boundary between the personal and the universal.

Parquet Courts - Light Up Gold - VINYL LP

Originally released in 2012, Light Up Gold is being made available via Rough Trade Records on November 28, 2025.Light Up Gold - Parquet Courts first proper LP - is a dynamic and diverse foray into the back alleys of the American DIY underground. Bright guitars swirl serpentine over looping, groovy post-punk bass lines and drums that border on robotic precision. While the initial rawness of the band's early output remains, the songwriting has gracefully evolved. Primary wordsmiths A. Savage and Austin Brown combine for a dynamic lyrical experience, one part an erudite overflow of ideas, the other an exercise in laid-back observation. Lyrically dense, the poetry is in how it flows along with the melody, often times as locked-in as the rhythm section.InchThis record is for the over-socialized victims of the 1990's 'you can be anything you want', Nickelodeon-induced lethargy that ran away from home not out of any wide-eyed big city daydream, but just out of a subconscious return to America's scandalous origin, Inch writes Savage in the album's scratched-out liner notes. Recorded in an ice-box practice space, Light Up Gold is equally indebted to Krautrock, The Fall, and a slew of contemporaries like Tyvek and Eddy Current Suppression Ring.Though made up of Texan transplants, Parquet Courts are a New York band. Throw out the countless shallow Brooklyn bands of the blasé 2000's Light Up Gold is a conscious effort to draw from the rich culture of the city - the bands like Sonic Youth, Bob Dylan, and the Velvet Underground that are not from New York, but of it. A panoramic landscape of dilapidated corner-stores and crowded apartments is superimposed over bare-bones Americana, leaving little room for romance or sentiment. It's punk, it's American, it's New York... it's the color of something you were looking for.

Matteo Liva - Goldberg Variations - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The 19th-century reclamation of Bach's music, spearhead by Mendelssohn and then Schumann, was later to be further developed most famously by Ferruccio Busoni. However, another key figure was composer and organist Joseph Rheinberger, whose arrangement for two pianos of the Goldberg Variations was made in the spring of 1883. Noting that the work had been 'the object more of theoretical appreciation than musical performance' Rheinberger sought to clarify it's imitative polyphony and where he felt it necessary, added new parts of his own writing to the original score, to create a viable Bach-Rheinberger composition.
