Night Owls - Hercules - 7-INCH SINGLE [7 inch Vinyl Disc]

To round out their second wave of 7Inch singles, Night Owls bring the heat once again with their signature sound and vision. Re-imagining two Aaron Neville classics, InchHerculesInch feat. Alex Désert and The Lions b/w InchTell It Like It IsInch feat. Asdru Sierra from Ozomatli, Night Owls up the ante by bringing in some heavy hitters for both sides of this 45. Side A's InchHerculesInch features long-time collaborators and bandmates from The Lions (Stones Throw, Ubiquity, NYCT) - the soulful tenor of Alex Désert (also Hepcat) on lead blending seamlessly with the familiar voices of Deston Berry (Hepcat) and Malik Moore (Ocean 11) on backing harmonies. The Lions front line locks in tight from the many years performing together on top of a darker and grittier interpretation of Allen Toussaint's masterpiece complete with fuzzed-out guitar, Space Echoes and rhythm drops. On the flip, InchTell It Like It IsInch keeps the momentum going and hips swaying with added Colombian percussion elements and California lowrider vibes. Featuring L.A. family and multi-talented vocalist of Ozomatli, Asdru Sierra, on lead and Night Owl Dan Ubick on backing vocals Side B creates a unique blend of reggae and Cumbia into a very fresh take on this multi-generational hit.

Night Owls - Cramp Your Style b/w Your Old Standby - 7-INCH SINGLE [7 inch Vinyl Disc]

After the success of their full-length LP earlier this year, Night Owls are back for more and ready to take the bar even higher! This first 45 from a new string of recording sessions features two heavy hitters in the funk/soul community; N'Dea Davenport from London's famed The Brand New Heavies and SoCal's own Trish Toledo (Now-Again Records, Silent Giant, Mango Hill). Side A is the classic soul body mover InchCramp Your StyleInch (All the People) featuring N'Dea Davenport, which Hip-Hop heads will recognize as the foundation for Boogie Down Productions' InchStill #1Inch and Cypress Hill's InchReal Estate.Inch Davenport's soulful delivery elevates Night Owls' flip, echoing the famous Studio One riddim InchGreedy GInch by Brentford Road All Stars and the quirks of the original. Side B follows up with Motown classic InchYour Old StandbyInch by Mary Wells and features Latina Soul phenom Trish Toledo. Adding a little more bounce and groove to the original, Night Owls' flip sets the backdrop for Toledo to shine brightly and deliver a vocal performance that perfectly echoes Mary Wells in her youth. Both sides are must-haves, be it spinning at a party or slowing things down slightly while cruising around the neighborhood, just in time for the holiday season. Produced by Dan Ubick and Night Owls. Recorded and Mixed by Dan Ubick for DanUbe Productions at The Lions Den in Topanga, CA.

Night Owls - Got That Will B/w Got That Dub - 7-INCH SINGLE [7 inch Vinyl Disc]

To round out the year, Los Angeles' own Night Owls are hitting the decks once again with their next re-imagined soul classic, this time digging deep in the crates and taking on Lee Moses' 1970s Maple Records version of the Herman Hitson classic InchGot That Will.Inch Flipping this rare soul cut into an early Dancehall-inspired banger, producer & guitarist Dan Ubick brought in powerhouse singer Gina Murrell (Wailing Souls, U-Roy, The Ethiopians, Orgone) to match the new energy and direction brought by Night Owls' rhythm section of Ubick, Wilder, Colie, and Rivas. But like the old Ginsu knife adverts... that's not all - this go 'round Ubick also enlisted Kingston's own legendary deejay Ranking Joe (Greensleeves, Trojan, Joe Gibbs, etc.) to bless the track with his signature rhythmic, ad-lib stylings, giving this rendition an even sharper edge. The flip side features a proper Version in InchGot that DubInch mixed by Night Owls keyboard maestro and engineer Roger Rivas complete with dubbed-out Space Echoes, verb splashes, SynDrum hits and drum 'n' bass sections and a completely different vocal take from Ranking Joe showcasing even more of his signature, razor-sharp wordplay. InchGot that DubInch gives this Night Owls re-imagined deep soul classic extended life and is primed for a late 70's/early 80's sound system set, blasting loud and turned to eleven so all you deejays and selectors make sure to grab doubles before they are gone!
