Limited purple vinyl LP pressing. The Original Monster Mash is an album by Bobby (Boris) Pickett and The Crypt-Kickers, and is considered a classic when it comes to Halloween music. It was recorded and released in late 1962, following the success of Pickett's InchMonster MashInch single. Continuing with its soundtrack reissue campaign, UMe reissues this classic on purple vinyl for the first time. Includes the title track alongside other horror-ific titles like ‘Bella’s Bash’, ‘Blood Bank Blues’, ‘Skully Gully’, ‘Irresistible Igor’, ‘Transylvania Twist’, and ‘Monster Mash Party’. Pickett co-wrote ‘Monster Mash’ with Leonard Capizzi in May 1962. The song was a spoof on the dance crazes popular at the time, including the Twist and the Mashed Potato, which inspired the title. The song featured Pickett's impersonations of veteran horror stars Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi (the latter with the line InchWhatever happened to my Transylvania Twist?Inch). It was passed on by every major record tag, but after hearing the song, Gary S. Paxton agreed to produce and engineer it; among the musicians who played on it was pianist Leon Russell. Issued on Paxton's Garpax Records, the single became a million seller, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks before Halloween in 1962. Album Tracks 1. Monster Mash 2. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
