Bobby Williams - Anybody Can Be a Nobody - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

One of the all time indie funk classics of the 1970's, obscure vocalist Bobby Williams' gave James Brown a run for the money when he released InchFunky Super FlyInch in 1974. The style of the album recalls James Brown at his funkiest, but with a sound that's even grittier featuring a tight horn section and some heavy funk jamming that really gets in the groove and stays there. Copies of the original LP fetches big bucks on the rare groove collector's market and fans of the album will be delighted to see it make it's long overdue debut in the digital realm. All selections newly re-mastered.

A great album of straight-ahead jazz, this new features a program of wonderful acoustic jazz composed by John Perrine. John Perrine is Associate Professor, Coordinator of Jazz Studies and Department Chair at Cleveland State University. He has premiered works by Kari Juusela, Aaron Johnson, William Price, Greg D'Allesio and others. Perrine holds a DMA from Louisiana State University, a Masters in Jazz Pedagogy from Northwestern University, and a BME from Stetson University. He is a founding member of the Neo- Tessares Saxophone Quartet as well as the Red Stick Saxophone Quartet. Red Stick has won national prizes in the MTNA and Fischoff chamber music competitions. Perrine's composition InchVonnegut Suite for Saxophone QuartetInch was premiered at the North American Saxophone Alliance International Convention in Columbia, South Carolina by the Red Stick Saxophone Quartet. This is his sophomore album.

On the new Something So Precious EP Ben Pirani & The Means Of Production continue to push into unexplored territory. The lead single I Know It Hurts, a softly melancholic dirge, features Brian Jackson (of Gil Scott Heron Fame) on flute punctuating the smokey mood while complimenting the daring harmonies. On We Are The Lovers Ben and Co make a forceful yet melodic statement about just who they are and what they mean to do! The swirling strings, dense harmony, swinging tempo and psychedelic extended outro demands a listener's attention. The title track Something So Precious features Ben alone on vocals accompanied only by himself and a string quartet. Here he explores impressionistic vocal moves and dissonant string arrangements.
