About this product

Fin de nuit invites you to a profusion of notes intended for the orchestra by the magician of sound Philippe Boesmans. The three pieces on this album (Concerto for violin, Capriccio for two pianos and orchestra and Fin de nuit for piano and orchestra that gives it's title to this album) - commissioned by the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège - underline the solidity of the bond between the composer and the orchestra. This album is released on the occasion of Gergely Madaras taking up his position as musical director of the orchestra, as if a new day were beginning. Born in Belgium Philippe Boesmans studied piano at Conservatoire de Liege before choosing a composing career. Initially influenced by serialism, he soon felt it necessary to break beyond it's constraints and exclusions. Never dismissing this heritage, he has nonetheless developed a profoundly personal musical language, at the very center of which lays meaningful communication with the audience.

Belles De Nuit - Belles de Nuit la Bande - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The original soundtrack from the musical InchBelles de nuitInch sends us back to 1946 and the twilight days of France's notorious Inchhouses of prostitution,Inch which had been tolerated but were now threatened with closure by the Marthe-Richard law. The songs here are poetic, and filled with tenderness and mischief in their portraits of the prostitutes, madams and pimps who made up this nocturnal underworld. Both words and music were written by the composer, actor, singer and director Jonathan Kerr, who also plays an inestimable role in the musical. This album is carried high by the writing and by these remarkable singers and musicians, all of which shows edible precision in the way the record mixes the authenticity of France's InchchansonInch genre with swing jazz. It takes popular art to the stars.
