The Bombillas have emerged with two new original compositions in their recognizable sound of psychedelic eclectic soul meets world funk. InchHatifInch b/w InchKidi BloomInch takes you on a narrative journey into the unknown. Imagine speeding down Highway 10 into the desert at sunset, top down with one hand on the wheel; you end up all alone at night and hear a mysterious voice calling, screaming in your ear, but nowhere in sight. This imagery sets the stage for Side A, InchHatif.Inch Lead by a driving phased-out strumming acoustic guitar and interweaving melodic lines from David Michael Celia on Keys and Tyler Nuffer on Electric Guitar, InchHatifInch takes inspiration from the psychedelic funk and rock sounds of North Africa and The Middle East in the 1970s. Held together by the steady groove of Bassit Josh Wiener and Drummer Joey Campanella, The Bombillas explore sonic imagery and imagination in their interpretation of the Arabian Folklore, Hatif. Then, on Side B, The Bombillas bring it down a notch with InchKidi Bloom.Inch Featuring Patrick Bailey (Jungle Fire) on lap steel, InchKidi BloomInch continues with the desert imagery and mystical encounters one may find at night, strolling through the endless open landscape. Again, held together by Wiener and Campanella's solid groove, Celia and Bailey weave their melodic voices, creating a conversation of question and answer, or human and higher power. Digging into the vault, The Bombillas have unearthed two previously unreleased tracks InchSema's WalkInch b/w InchMawasa.Inch These songs were written and initially recorded shortly after the of their first 45, InchTortuga b/w Kings Up,Inch in 2017, however, they were not fully completed until late 2024. This new 7-inch features a more mellow Ethiopian jazz aesthetic, utilizing a larger ensemble that includes additional percussion, flute, and horns to the more recent Bombillas lineup you might be familiar with. On Side A, InchSema's WalkInch establishes a steady 2-step 6/8 feel, driven by David Michael Celia on drums, Aquiles InchLitoInch Magaña on rhythm guitar, Steve Haney on percussion, and Josh Wiener on bass. Together, this core group creates a hypnotic groove, allowing the melodic tapestry to blossom. Celia leads the melodic elements, overdubbed on a Wurlitzer 200a, with contributions from Jesse Audelo on flute, Ian Anderson on saxophone, and Greg Zilboorg on trumpet bring a cinematic element to their interwoven melodies gracefully interacting with the steady bass pattern. On the flip side, we find InchMawasa,Inch which draws inspiration from one of the legends of Ethiopian jazz, Mulatu Astatke. The Bombillas utilize the Tizita scale in their own way, again led by Ian Anderson on saxophones and Jesse Audelo on flute, this track features David Michael Celia on drums, vibraphone, and Wurlitzer, alongside a steady instrumental backdrop provided by Aquiles InchLitoInch Magaña on guitar, Steve Haney on percussion, and Josh Wiener on bass. We've taken a selection of the most in-demand and asked-for titles in our Brazil 45's catalogue and given them a loving remaster and repress. The late composer, arranger, musician and record producer Nonato Buzar is a lesser-known great outside of Brazil. His legacy leaves behind a rich body of recordings, working with some of the cream of the Brazilian '60s and '70s music scene, including Evinha, Elis Regina, Wilson Das Neves as well as reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. The awesome organ driven dancer 'Cafuá', with it's zesty horns and sun-soaked vocal tones, is taken from Nonato & Seu Conjunto's 1975 'O Som E O Balanço de Nonato' album on Som records.Most famed for his ultra rare 1973 track 'Lotus 72 D', which Mr Bongo reissued in 2019, José Roberto aka Zé Roberto's other 7 inch from the following year, also held a gem within it's B side grooves. 'Crioula Multicolorida', though not as scarce as 'Lotus 72 D', is still a super hard record to track down and is equally as great. This anthemic 'samba rock' pearler, with it's amazing breakdown and strutting groove, has long been a favourite amongst Brazilian DJs and collectors.
