About this product
Following up on their debut album with Gramola with works of Viennese classical era, the Haydn Chamber Ensemble now dedicates this to piano trios from the period of late romanticism. The first piano trios by Sergej Rachmaninoff and Dmitri Shostakovich are considered juvenile works, and both only found their way into the official canon of their composers posthumously. InchLas Cuatro Estaciones PorteñasInch by the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, on the other hand, is a collection of tangos that were composed between 1965 and 1970, at the height of his oeuvre, and were combined by the composer as a suite. The arrangement for piano trio was done by his friend, tango-cellist José Bragato, who also arranged the milonga InchOblivionInch for this cast.

The Haydn Chamber Ensemble was founded in 2013 by Cornelia Löscher, violin, Luca Monti, piano and Hannes Gradwohl, cello to promote the music of Joseph Haydn and his contemporaries to a broader audience. Committed to their name, the musicians commence their debut CD with the Piano Trio No. 39 in G major, Hob. XV 25 by Haydn. This late work of his is then contrasted by the Piano Trio in E major, K. 542 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, that he composed at the height of his success in the year 1788 - then being around half the age as InchPapa HaydnInch. Franz Schuberts Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat major D 929 originated from 1827, just one year before his passing, which ultimately brought the era of the First Viennese School to an end.

This recording traces the heritage of Romanticism in postmodern times. It's vintage opener is the first Cello Sonata by Brahms, a pinnacle of unspeakable but mind-controlled beauty. Martinu's second Cello Sonata, written in American exile in 1941, revisits Brahms's old world, but with wider tonality, more expressive shifts, and the extra rhythmic pulse of Czech folk music. In Schnittke's Cello Sonata of 1978, which builds on Shostakovich's emaciated style, the ghosts of the desolate closing Largo usher in the death throes of Romanticism. This is a captivating album that draws it's fascination not from the uniformity of the pieces included, but from their distinct differences. Born in Poland, Kacper Nowak began playing the cello at the age of eight. A year later, he was the laureate of the Liezen Cello Competition in Austria and entered the Fryderyk Chopin School in Poznan, in the class of Danuta Taczanowska. Having won several national and international competitions, he became a member of the National Foundation for Gifted Children. Since September 2014 Kacper has been studying at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium, under the direction of Gary Hoffman where he received a scholarship by Haas-Teichen.
