This is a great espresso machine! I love the control of steaming/frothing the milk myself, and having a pressure gauge in real time while drawing the shots makes it easy to dial in the grind. The only slight limitation is the tamper. It's handy to always have it there, but I bought a "real" one in addition. Everything else is top quality.

Makes excellent espresso so long as you have a good espresso grinder, also steams milk well for velvety micro bubbles

This is the only choice in this price range. It has a pressure indicator which is very important to get a proper shot. It also dispenses hot water for Cafe Americanos. Does not have a grinder included, but I like having it separate.

I purchased this machine based on the in-depth review the wirecutter provided. I found it quite difficult to get the pressure right in the beginning, due to the grind not being optimal and older beans. Once I dialed down the coarseness and put fresh beans in the portafilter, getting a really tasty shot out of the Breville. This machine gives what you put into it, definitely requires work but that's the fun of it!

Went with Wirecutter review. On further consideration, probably should have purchased a higher end machine.

Having happily drunk many coffees in Italy, I thought to splurge with the Infuser, however--even after tinkering, with temp, tamp, grinds, etc.--I found that coffees I made with my little Bialetti stovetop moka pot tasted as good, or better than those from the Breville. Thus, I returned the machine.

I've had this machine for 10 years and absolutely no issues. I don't use it every morning but I do use it weekly. I give it a 5 star rating based on price point. There are better machines from specialty brands for much more money, usually at least twice the price. Breville also offers more expensive machines with other features and built in grinders but you have to decide if a specialty brand is better at that price point. Breville has the reliability and ease of use edge these days. Specialty brands may excel at frothing milk and easy PID adjustments and that would be where this machine may lose some edge against more expensive machines. This is definitely a home machine, prosumer, you can't run a cafe on this thing as it takes longer to froth your espresso milk. In some cases the slower frothing is be better for people that are less skilled in the frothing department. By following best practices, using fresh beans from local roasters, weighing my grinds and using a better tanper (Nomcore brand) I am getting fantastic shots, nothing wrong here. It is getting a perfect microfoam that can be a little more tricky with this machine. If you must have the perfect latte art I would look at brands like Rocket. I feel no reason to upgrade to a 1500 dollar machine because this one is reliable, easy to use and maintain, and with a little extra attention to detail making 3rd wave cafe qualty drinks.
