Brian Bromberg - Downright Upright - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This is a logical tribute album from one great bassist (Brian Bromberg) to another (Jaco Pastorius). The front of the CD purposely resembles Pastorius' debut recording and the program features six Pastorius songs (including two versions apiece of InchCome on, Come OverInch and InchTeen TownInch), Joe Zawinul's InchA Remark You Made,Inch the R&B standard InchThe Chicken,Inch and Bromberg's InchTears.Inch A master at tapping his bass and equally skilled on electric and acoustic basses, Bromberg also has the ability to sound a bit like Pastorius when he wants. This excellent tribute set uses different personnel and instrumentations on each selection and shows off the many sides of Pastorius, both as a bassist and as a composer.

Brian Bromberg the man of a thousand basses is joined by a host of top-flight friends on what is arguably his most jazzy set since the Grammy-nominated DOWNRIGHT UPRIGHT. Guests include Randy Brecker, Vinny Colaiuta, George Duke, Bela Fleck, Larry Golding's and Jeff Lorber. Producer, composer, bass player Bromberg's talents run rampant on his newest, COMPARED TO THAT.

Loaded with some great musicians like Dave Kochanski, Gary Meek, Jeff Lorber, David Benoit, Brian Culbertson, Alex Acuna and Eric Marienthal this CD just has this magical funk that you find yourself marking quite a few songs that have to go on your mix CD's or play on the air. Ryko. 2005.
