About this product
After the success of Duel (Opera Choice in BBC Music Magazine, Disc of the Month in Opera magazine, etc.), Giuseppina Bridelli presents a new solo project alongside the Quartetto Vanvitelli (recently awarded '5 Diapasons' in the magazine Diapason for it's second recording, devoted to the violin sonatas of Michele Mascitti), in which she tackles the fascinating world of the Italian chamber cantata for voice, continuo and solo violin. Appena chiudo gli occhi (As soon as I close my eyes) is the title of a musical voyage across the vast ocean of cantatas composed by two giants of early eighteenth-century music, Alessandro Scarlatti and Antonio Caldara, interspersed with an instrumental premiere by Giuseppe Valentini. The careers of the two composers intersected in 1708 in Rome, the heart of musical production and patronage, and continued in two of the principal European capitals Scarlatti in Naples and Caldara in Vienna. The unusual scoring of these cantatas displays intimacy of sound and variety of timbre, as well as great attention to the individual melodic lines, aspects that more rarely emerge in pieces composed for more substantial forces.

In 1738 the acclaimed violinist and composer Michele Mascitti (1664-1760) published in Paris his ninth collection of sonatas. The seventy-four-year-old Neapolitan musician was at the end of his long and celebrated career, but not of his creative powers. Dedicated to the Crozat family, which was to be Mascitti's patron until the end of his life, the twelve sonatas for violin and bass op.9 are fine examples of the graceful blend of Italian and French styles that made this composer so popular in France. With the world premiere of eight sonatas from Mascitti's op. 9, the Quartetto Vanvitelli carries on the rediscovery of this music that Hubert Le Blanc likened 'to the warbling of the nightingale'. After the success of their interpretation of Mascitti's op.8, greeted as 'a jewel of interpretation that exalts with grace, elegance and, more importantly, finesse of touch, the individual stylistic experimentation of Mascitti' (A111), the ensemble Vanvitelli makes with this recording another decisive step towards the full appreciation of this remarkable and unjustly forgotten composer.

Despite The Rise Of The Sun, the 2nd full-length from 5-piece progressive melodic death metal band Solemn Vision, is tangible proof of hard work coming to fruition. This album features songs that the band not only always wanted to write and record, but also hear, as listeners and fans of music themselves. Before the lockdown, the band was already working on songs that would become the bulk of the album; during lockdown they kept working on something that had become long-awaited by fans, fueled by the frustrations and difficulties brought on by the pandemic; post-lockdown, coming off a successful 3-week tour in the northeast, and an exciting new partnership with Black Lion Records, Solemn Vision is finally ready to bring their vision to life. Despite The Rise Of The Sun features songs ranging from extremely fast and punishing, to soft but dark, while still finding a sense of balance throughout the whole album. While there isn't necessarily a theme that binds every track together, there is certainly a message within this album that finding a sense of balance is vital when you are faced with any challenges.
