Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning: A Companion - Gold - 12-INCH SINGLE [12 inch Vinyl Single]

The first three are innocent in a way, because we didn't have an audience when we were making them, Oberst says. InchBut from Lifted on, I was definitely aware of an audience. Lifted was well-received right away, and then everything happened with Wide Awake and Digital Ash.Inch Those two albums came out simultaneously. And their lead singles - InchTake It Easy (Love Nothing),Inch from the austere, remote Digital Ash, and InchLua,Inch from the warm, folky Wide Awake - debuted in the top two slots on the Billboard Hot 100. InchFirst Day of My Life,Inch also from Wide Awake, would later be voted the Number One love song of all time by NPR Music's reader's poll. Bright Eyes had officially broken through. It was a heady, exciting time, but also fraughtand tense, both because of the band's careening new fame, and because of the state of the world. When Bright Eyes made their Tonight Show debut in 2006, they chose to perform none of their shiny new hits, instead delivering a searing, harrowing rendition of their caustic anti-Bush anthem, InchWhen The President Talks To God.Inch These days, Oberst is still amusing himself by messing with the extremes Bright Eyes baked into this era's releases, extremes that reflected the polar, with-us-or-against-us, fractious feel of the times. The reworked Digital Ash tracks, originally so clean and elegant, are, on the companion EP, full of Inchharmonica and mandolins - folky vibes,Inch Oberst says. While the analogue sweetness of the Wide Awake songs have been put through a detached nihilism filter. Album Tracks 1. Hit the Switch (Companion Version) 2. Down in a Rabbit Hole (Companion Version) 3. Arc of Time (Time Code) [Companion Version] 4. Ship in a Bottle (Companion Version) 5. Agenda Suicide 6. Gold Mine Gutted (Companion Version)

One of the things that struck Oberst as he and the band went through twenty-plus years of music is that he may in fact have been writing the same song this whole time. Not sonically, of course, but conceptually. This last wave contains, in Noise Floor, early Bright Eyes songs so raw Oberst never even released them back in the day, as well as, in Cassadaga and The People's Key, the band's most polished and sophisticated albums. When Bright Eyes toured Cassadega they performed an epic 7 sold-out nights at NYC's Town Hall. What's more grown-up rockstar than that? And yet...InchThematically those early songs are not that different than the songs I make now,Inch Oberst says, shaking his head. InchThere's something affirming and disheartening about it. It's like, have I really changed or grown? But maybe it's just that I knew what I wanted to write about from the beginning.Inch Album Tracks 1. Jejune Stars 2. Firewall 3. When You Were Mine 4. Approximate Sunlight 5. A Machine Spiritual (The People's Key) 6. Beginner's Mind
